Heres the question:

Solve:

3x/(x-2)(x+4) = 1/3

values of x = ..... or x = .....

multiply the whole equation through by 3(x-2)(x+4) to get:

9x = x^2 + 2x - 8

solve that equation (x^2 - 7x - 8) = 0

which factorises into (x+1)(x-8)=0

so x = -1, or x = 8.
