In general, no, but your surgery may ask you to go for 6-month checkups with a doctor or nurse.

Nah, they may require you for the occasional check-up but i order mine from the surgery on the internet. Your surgery may offer this option?
Makes it easier, i just pop to the chemists and pick it up
How do you get the prescription paper if you don't go to the doctor though?

If it's a repeat prescription you can use the white tear-off piece from your last prescription. Alternatively, you just write a letter to the doctor and say "Please can you give me some more of xxxxxxxxx as I am getting on well with them" and that'll usually do. Then you can pick up the prescription itself from the doctor's surgery. If you have a repeat prescription arrangement they get sent straight to your pharmacy of choice. If they want you to come in for a check up they let you know.

At my uni sugery you have to call in every time you need a repeat prescription for the pill. They give you a six month supply at a time but for each new prescription they like to check your blood pressure. They won't issue repeat precriptions for the pill over the phone or on the internet.

Even if you do order the prescription online or by phone, you generally do have to call into the surgery to pick it up, although some pharmacies offer collection services.

My GP back home asked me to go back for a check up every 6 months

My dad has even picked my prescription up once, and i've never needed any bits of paper etc. Just order then pick it up!
Obviously from posts aboce it varies at different sugeries but give them a call and see what is the easier way/the way with less hassle!

For the first year, I had to go and have my blood pressure checked every 6 months. Since then, it's been yearly. If you're not sure if you have to go back in, ring them up and ask - the receptionists can tell from your records.

You guys are lucky, I've been on the pill for a couple of years now and until very recently I had to have a check-up every three months, despite never having had any problems! I asked one nurse and she said they were reluctant to issue a repeat prescription for six months' supply and said they prefer to see me every three months. Then I spoke to another, who I think I persuaded to let me have six months from now on. Very annoying having to keep arranging appointments.

I can't get a repeat prescription for the pill. I have to go to the doctors every six months for a check up. It's a bit of a pain having to do it this way, a repeat prescription would be easier but sadly I don't get this. I've been on the pill for a year now and i'm due another prescription so i'll need to phone and make an appointment at some point.
Just tick the box on your paper for a repeat.

I think I'm due for my first check up with Mercillon in a few months. Never got round to having one with Microgynon cos it affected me and I had to change.
My doctor told me to go for a check up after the first 3 months

I don't actually know how to go about this either What do you do? Make an appointment with the doctor and say its just to get more of the pill I am on or what?
