I have 665 ukcat and 5A*s at GCSE (4 As at AS if that makes a difference) do you think I'll have a shout applying to sheffield/ keele/ liverpool? Where else do you think i might have a chance?

Yeah go for those, you should have a good chance!! You meet the requirements for Sheffield to get onto stage 2, Keele is a good one but they want a lot of work experience/volunteering apparently so just make sure you have that, Liverpool is using the ukcat for the first time this year so it's just a little risky but I want to apply there too and I have the same ukcat score as you  Are you carrying all 4 A levels to A2? If yes Barts might be a good one to go for.

Not planning on taking the BMAT as I'll be quite busy with uni coursework at that time of year so thought I'd just focus on getting ready for interviews (my university tutor already isn't that keen on me applying this year as he wants me to focus on the final year of my degree). Also I took the BMAT when I applied for medicine when I was at school and got rejected from imperial purely for the reason that I was 0.1 below their cut off in the verbal reasoning section (was significantly above the cut off in all the other sections). Wow you're thinking of quite a few unis! I'm honestly applying for the ones i think I have the best chance of getting in at this point!). Was also thinking of Hull york but can't work out what GCSEs and UKCAT scores usually get interviews!

Oh damn that's such a shame Imperial rejected you for just missing one section by 0.1 :frown: Yep I still can't decide on the ones I have the best chance of getting into :colondollar: Hull York seems great, have a look at http://www.hyms.ac.uk/docs/default-source/hyms-downloads/selection-process-2015-final.pdf?sfvrsn=0 to work out your score and this thread to see what people that have applied there last year and got interviews have been scoring http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2871071&page=27 I'd say 60 points+ is good but for a competitive application a score close to / in the 70s is better. My Band 3 is putting me off applying there, also I'm not a fan of the group exercise.
How was the open day at Sheffield btw?

Yeah I think Hull York may be a bit risky with my UKCAT, how many points would you score by Hull Yorks application? (don't think they used SJT last year in the end as they decided they weren't representative enough), also just discovered that Queens Belfast give graduates predicted a 2:1 who have an A in chem A level full points on their academic scoring (equivalent to 9A* at GCSE) so I think I'd pretty much be guaranteed a interview there given they have 36 academic points, 6 points for UKCAT add them and interview the highest, so I guess Belfast will take Hull Yorks place for me!
Think Im deffinately applying to sheffield, the students all seemed really lovely and the course seemed great, also bonus that they do full body dissection. There were less people at the open day than I expected, but may have been because I got there at 9 in the morning and left by 2 as I had a long journey home. The med school seemed smaller than I expected but thats probably because the hospital in Nottingham where I'm currently doing neuroscience is one of the biggest in europe

Heed sorry to interrupt, but in terms of graduates applying to Queens belfast does that mean so long as your predicted a 2:1/first then A levels at ABB are not a problem? Is it just then whether your UKCAT is good enough for interview or not?

Also do you think they prefer irish students or do they accept both irish and english in the same proportions??

Thanks for your help!

I think I'd score about 63 this year for HY with SJT :colondollar:
In that case definitely go for QB!! It sounds like you have a great chance!! I think I'll apply to Keele instead of Sheffield now…don't want to risk my personal statement being the deciding factor for interview really…also Keele like loads of work experience so I think that might be a better option. Does Sheffield do panel interviews or MMI?
Wow how are you finding neuroscience?? It sounds really interesting I must say!!!

Haha, have you considered Bristol/ UEA?? I think Sheffield and Keele would be good ones to go for, maybe Liverpool. Are you going to any open days?? It might be useful to visit Liverpool to find out how they're using the ukcat this year
HEY. I'm potentially applying here for 2016 entry.

Stats:
GCSEs- 11A*s 1B

AS- AAAA (Bio, Chem, Phys, Maths)

UKCAT- 800, Band 2

A2 predicted grades- A*A*AA / A*A*A*A (maths, biology, chemistry and physics).
I'm thinking of Sheffield too!

Congrats on your ukcat score!!! Sheffield is a good option but if I had that score I'd probably apply to the ones that select applicants with top ukcat scores for interview (like Manchester, Newcastle, Kings etc) because you're guaranteed an interview, but with Sheffield as long as you pass the cut off (627.5 or something) they use the personal statement which then becomes the deciding factor for who gets interviews. So you might increase your chances by going for ukcat heavy unis and getting guaranteed interviews, if you see what I mean. Cardiff is also a good one to go for with those gcses!!
Definitely look into Kings with those stats!!!!
Where else are you thinking of applying?

Thank you
Ah okay, that makes sense tbh. Apply to your strengths afterall  So if I applied to Newcastle and Kings, I'd be likely to get an interview? What other unis are UKCAT heavy? :h:
Thanks for the tips! I genuinely have no idea where I'm applying at the moment. My school wants me to apply to Oxford, and I think I'd like to apply to King's College but otherwise I have no idea  Any tips?

I'd say Manchester is a good one - they select 1000 (approx) applicants with top ukcat scores then look at the personal statement and invite something like 800 to interview so it's pretty good  I'm not too sure about Newcastle I think they do something similar to Manchester though but select top 800 instead of 1000.
Definitely apply to Kings, your chances are really high!! They combine ukcat score and gcses and pick out top 25% (approx) of applicants for interview! I think you're pretty much guaranteed an interview there- my friend applied with 7/6A*s and ukcat score in the 800s and got an interview! Cardiff use top 9 gcses - you've obviously got the highest score you can get so you'll most likely be getting an interview there  I can't remember any other ones atm, will let you know if I do
You're basically really likely to get interviews in those, just make sure your personal statement is alright too!
Oxford is a good option with those stats  You have a lot of great options!!

I'd apply to Manchester but it's PBL (I think) which I don't like much xD
Thanks so much for all the help! So at the moment, King's, Newcastle and Cardiff are all looking like pretty solid options  Haha yeah, working on my personal statement at the moment
As for Oxford- I live in Oxford which is why I'm a bit iffy about applying there xD

Yeah if is a bit scary all being on personal statement! Sheffield does MMI, I believe there are 8 8minute interviews
neuroscience is really good, but definately prefer the physiology and pharmacology that I've done in my degree so don't think I'd actually want to specialise in neurology after med school

Yeah I've lookde at UEA keele and sheffield, liverpool is a maybe and bristol seems a bit risky because of the amount of applications. I'm thinking about sitting the BMAT and applying to either Brighton&Sussex or Leeds but not too sure yet:smile:

I'm thinking of applying here.
My stats are:
4 A* 3 As 1 B at GCSE's
4 As at AS
Predicted A*A*A for A2
UKCAT 660, Band 2
Btw, Is anyone considering applying to Plymouth?? I'm in two minds because my UKCAT score really is borderline :/
Where else is everyone applying to??

Im thinking of applying bt I got 600 average and 2410 all together in my ukcat is that good enough for Sheffield will they even consider my application .??? Any help appreciated

i called admissions, and luckily i got through to the person who receives applications and processes them and she confirmed the cut off is 2510 and if this criteria isn't met, unfortunately will be a rejection.
sorry, I was in your position last year too
