She said size zero American which is size 4 in one of her first posts.

Size 4 is absolutely ridiculous. Hell, size 6 is fairly stupid as well.

Don't get me started on this under 18 BMI model malarkey. It's a disgrace. And just because you haven't seen anyone healthy that size doesn't mean that there are those out there that aren't healthy at that size!

Urrr, no, it's not a disgrace. It's entirely sensible. A BMI of 18 is still very small indeed. It's a good size for models who are bound to influence their audience. A lot of models do have eating disorders. You can argue that they don't, but they blatently do. When I say eating disorders I mean all kinds of unhealthy relationships with food, not just the most extreme 'eating one celery stick per day' types.

Are people talking about American size zero or British? I think quite a few people who try to lose lots of weight are stupid enough to think they're the same and that being a size zero in British dress sizes is possible and fashionable...

Sorry what? surely you mean the other way round, a British zero would be an american -4, size 0000. an American zero is a UK 4. Which can surely only be healthy for those under 5ft.

How do I get to size zero? i am size 6/8 atm but would like to be size 4 for summer. I do alot of sport and eat quite healthily atm but I am unsure how to go about it. how do I approach it so far as my parents? what supplements would i need to take?

is it worth the hassle?

Is it possible without becoming anorexic as im not up for that at all!

You're already a size 2 in American terms so I don't see why everyone's making such a fuss - just exercise a bit more maybe

Oh dear, just as I was going to bed, too.

Everybody has different views on the matter though. And actually, the reason why size zero is in the news is because some professionals etc are concerned about the ppl that have died from being that size and have an eating disorder or crack habit to boot for that. But what ppl don't seem so concerned about or take into account with this debate, is that ppl die from being an extremely large size too and from the ED of binge eating.

Dear, everyone's talking about obesity these days, as much as - if not more than - anorexia and other such disorders. Have you not seen, to name but a few, ''Supersize Me'' or ''The Fattest State in the USA''? People are 'size-aware' but that's true on both ends of the scale, hence we not only have more obesity, but more dangerously underweight persons due to the pressures of the media. However, this debate isn't about being obese, it's about being scarily and worryingly underweight.

Yet most ppl seem to think that it's such an insult to call some one fat or obese but not to call someone skinny. The fact is that being slim is desirable and can be healthy whereas being a fat blob isn't. They just can't take it and I don't see why slimmer ppl should have to put up with pleasing larger ppl's egos and self-esteems as that already happens in up sizing of clothes.

Erm, I think you'll find that in this thread EVERYONE is dismissing being Size 0 because of how unattractive it is. How can you say that being that size is desirable when everyone is berating it - they can't all be utterly obese you know. I for one am a size 10/12, exactly the size I should be for my height, and I'm not criticising size 0 for the fact that I need my 'ego pleasing' - I would simply like to show the OP some sense given that it's not only unhealthy, but incredibly unattractive. And yes, the sizing of clothes may be seen as discriminatory, but I can't help that - stores react to demand & if the sizes aren't there, unfortunately, it is just down to lack of demand.

Size zero is also in the news alot and getting alot of bad press because both America and Britain as nations have a general trend of getting bigger and bigger, or more "curvy", with obesity calls. Hence more ppl become jealous because they're not naturally like that or could never be like that and it makes them feel insecure. In reality, it's only the minority of those that are size zeros that have eating disorders or drug habits, and are influenced by what they see in trashy magazines, the medias subjective slaughtering comments, or in fashion.

I don't quite understand your point here, given that you're saying that size 0 is getting so much bad press, how does that encourage people to then go and attain this? Even if people do see this and become jealous, the fact that it's being brought to their attention due to deaths is hardly going to inspire jealousy. I don't see a media article about a road accident and then go play on the motorway because I'm jealous of the victims being dead - and if I did, that'd be classed as a severe mental disorder, rather than an insult to my 'right' to go play on the motorway..
I don't deny that some people are naturally that size. But if the OP is asking for what she can do to become that size, on top of her currently healthy diet and exercise routine, then that's NOT a natural size, is it?

But the press would let you believe otherwise just like the BNP would lead you yo believe that most immigration to this country is to our disadvantage when in fact it isn't.

The difference being, anon (by the way, whilst I'm on the topic, might I ask why you posted this anon?!) that the BNP have an ulterior motive - they would like to get voted into power, and scaremongering people will help that. Having said that - that's not the debate we're here for - and your analogy is somewhat bizzare. I really can't quite understand how you can suggest that a political party having a manifesto and making claims which are most obviously biased have anything to do with the media reporting on deaths due to industry and image pressures, and the debate surrounding it.

Ok, but I very much doubt you're high. At best you'll be normal. But I bet you're on the lower side.

You probably look like a toothpick that's been split in half already, size 0 is just foolish. People have actually died of organ failure for doing it.

You are underweight by quite a bit.
If you're 5'3 your BMI is 17.4 and if you're 5'4 it's 16.8.
It should be between 18.5 and 25 or something similar. Definitely not under 18 though.
