I think when its got to that stage (boyfriend/girlfriend) its not about the chase.

He's either getting cold feet and you should just chill around him and reassure him. Perhaps even talk about it and explain that you're not about to marry him off.

or...

Its just not good for him. He might have either found someone else, actually doesn't want a relationship or he doesn't like you as much as he thought he did.

Either way don't let him trample on you or use you. Perk up that backbone and say he is either going to go out wth you and actually be with you, or he can sod off.

I spoke to him about his doubts last night and he said that because his ex cheated on him he is unsure whether he is ready for another relationship and that it's nothing to do with me.
This has made me like him even more though and be determined for him to get over this issue and actually want to be with. So i thought if i stopped contacting him maybe he would 'want what he can't have' ?

Meh.
Blaming the ex is sometimes the painful truth, but also its sometimes just an easy get out clause.

No, I'm not as skeptical as I appear. I'm just the devil's advocate.

I thought that too but he says that she's really affected him. Wish he would of moved on before asking me out though because now i'm suffering.

Yes and no. Yes if you're into a long term relationship. Will drive him crazy, though beware, he might get all clingy and gay. No - if I can see your ass under your skirt chances are I'll talk to you before that girl asking me for a drink. Mix it up a bit really.
