Are short fingernails on girls unattractive?

It's something I've always thought about...

And now it's really bugging me because I have really short fingernails and I hate them.

Just wondering because theres a lot of women going around with nail extensions...

So is it like horrible for girls to have really short fingernails? :confused:

how short? i like to keep mine only just long enough to see the white bit but i shape them etc so that i dont look like a man. my bf likes that much better than long.

I'm pretty sure guys don't notice stuff like that, so long as they're in okay condition. Mine have to be short so that I can play the piano. Personally, I HATE nail extensions/false nails and think they're grotesque and tacky, but I'm just a girl.

I play classical guitar so I have to keep the fingernails on my right hand long, which is a complete pain in the ass. (not literally though) :s-smilie:

I have tried to grow my nails before but they don't grow much.
I've also tried like shortish nail extensions... And they just irritate me.

I really hate my nails it's so embarassing when I go out for dinner with family and people.

My nails are just to the top of my finger... If that makes any sense :s:

Nail extensions are cheap-looking and really impractible... I don't even notice people's fingernails unless they're particularly long (in which case I think what I've just said) or disgustingly dirty. Fairly short is better, but you need a little over the edge of the finger for scratching or opening things; I'm a pianist so mine are always short.

Nail extensions are awful and ruin your nails for months after they grow out. And whilst they're growing out they look even worse.

I personally think that well-kept nails are nice, regardless of length so long as they're neat. On myself, I like to have semi-long nails - my nails break too easily so I don't have long nails, but they grow to about 2-3mm [heh, had to get my ruler out...] and I shape and paint them [just plain french manicure polish].

However I have a got a male friend who thinks it's better for a lady to have longer, well-kept and painted nails. Not necessarily fake long ones; when my nails go to 2/3mm and are all nicely done then he approves. But when I have to trim them and start again he's like, "Ahh Nicola, when will you learn..." :rolleyes:

My dad's the same. I seem to know a few guys who have a slight old school look on things, but I agree; I think it's nice for a woman to take care of herself and this includes nice nails, and for me, my nails only look nice a little longer... On the other my best friend [a girl] has short nails because of the instruments she plays, they're about 1mm long [I mean in whiteness of course :smile:

] but she looks after them and it shows even though they're short. So really... don't worry :smile:

Don't get me wrong though, I also think the same about men [to take care of themselves, not long nails - ick]. I generally think personal self-upkeep or whatever it's called is important and good for confidence. :smile:

Yuk at girls who bite their finger nails so they have none.

Womens hands are suppose to be nice and feminine.

Although not too longer nails that they can gouge your eyes out.

I'm very picky when it comes to nail sizes haha

Looking at my nails, they are quite short compaired to a lot of my friends. I used to bite my nails but have stopped and my nails are just at the tip of my finger, I couldn't have they any longer than that because there is something about long nails that freak me out, I hate them. I don't like long painted nails, they look really crap in my opinion, just as crap as the fake ones. As long as you take care of your nails, it shouldn't matter what length they are...

I always have to paint my nails... Because it makes them look longer.

I find nail varnish makes my nails look even shorter, because it emphasises them. I think people with long nail beds always have nice nails (and am jealous of them). I have short nail beds, but I think my hands are quite nice in general so it doesn't bother me.
