Moral dilemna friend going to Afghanistan

I attended a friend's baby's christening yesterday, and met-up with a guy again who is about to go to Afghanistan, he invited me via his sister to go to his graduation ball at Sandhurst last year, sadly he thought that we were going to be close, I like him and want to be friends, he is not happy with this compromise and now wants to write and phone when he is away.

This has been a difficult day for me as I know that he is worried and even frightened:s-smilie: , would it be wrong to tell him the truth, morally I feel that I should support him as 1 of his cousins was killed in Iraq last year.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Sandhurst?! Man in uniform?! Can I have him if you don't want him??

You can support him without going out with him. If that's what you meant, anyway (it was kind of hard to tell). Anyway, if you go out with him, then he comes home again, you'll end up breaking up with him and he'll just get hurt. Can't you just be penpals?

I understand, Im not sure I could have a relationship (let alone a new one) in tht situation-You have been great in being totally honest and support him now through writing etc.
