Sharp pain near appendix.. now gone :S

For most of today until about 4ish I had a stomach ache on and off, but I get it quite often, so I didn't think anything of it. However, about ten or fifteen minutes ago, I started to feel this really odd pain just to the right of my belly button. It wasn't like the normal burning sensation you get with a stomach ache, it was really sharp and precise.. it felt more like if you pull an abdominal muscle, only it was much stronger pain than that. For about ten minutes I couldn't move at all- I tried to sit up and the pain was too much, but then suddenly the pain just went. :s:

The only thing I'm worried about is that I've never really felt pain like it, and it was quite near to my appendix, so I didn't want to take any chances. I know there isn't a great deal I can conceivably do now it's gone, but should I be worried?

Appendix pain is pretty constant, when I had it, the pain never went away.

Do you have any other symptoms like nausea or vomitting?

Yeah, that's mainly why I'm confused now, because I can't think of anything which would last for that short a period of time.

Not as of yet, nope.

Well it was probably nothing serious then! If it comes back (and stays), gets much worse or you get other symptoms- go to the docs or phone nhs direct.

Indeed, I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks everyone!

I had something like that. It would be a sharp pain, but fairly constantly through the day. Day by day it gradually went. Turned out to be an inflalmed intercostal muscle. What a load of crap, I didn't do any weights a few days before.

If you get appendicitis, you'll know, trust me.

It could be a muscle, or it could just have been a bit of gut spasming, or Mittelschmerz (ovulation pain) if you're a girl. Wouldn't worry unless it comes back or you develop other symptoms

My friend had this - she was in a great deal of pain but it came and went. She spent a night in hospital and they told her it was called "grumbling appendix" and that she should keep an eye on it. If you have the same pain but it's constant then it's actually appendicitis and you should call a doctor.
I got something like this about 4 months ago, except it woke me up in the middle of the night at about 4am. The pain was really bad like yours, so bad it was really hard to move, and I was convinced I was going to die of an appendicitis - then it suddenly dissapered too. Hasn't been back since, so i'm not complaining.

ok well i'm not trying to **** on all the positivity here but i personally suggest you don't ask people on a forum about this when you can easily make an appointment with your gp

seriously i worry about the idiocy of some people in this world...

a family friend of ours died three weeks ago because of pain like yours. he booked an appointment with the doctor (FINALLY) but collapsed and died on the way there.

i don't want to scare you and i'm not at ALL saying that's what will happen to you (lol that would be a crazy assumption) but will it hurt to see the doctor about it?

jeeeesus.
a pain that went away?

I seriously wonder about some people who would call their GP at midnight on a Monday to talk about a pain that isn't there anymore. I'm sorry for your loss but that's not a reason to flip out over a stomach pain that's already subsided, and you say you weren't trying to scare the OP but if that's the case why refer to a completely obscure scenario? Obviously it doesn't trivialise the fact that your family friend died but what were the chances of that happening, and what are the chances that the OP has something even remotely threatening? Do you know what the actual cause of death was?

yeah. he had it for a few months. just kept coming and going and then a couple of days before he died it came back really badly. and that's when he finally decided, hey, i'll see the doctor about this

edit: oops, mistake. apparently he first experienced the pain a week or so before the death.
Ok, but the OP has only had a stomach pain for today. If it kept recurring over several months then I'm sorry but your friend was very foolish not to see a doctor. What was it, an ulcer? Gastric torsion?

yes because i clearly suggested the op call their gp right this second didn't i.

i wasn't flipping out, i was merely giving (what i thought to be) obvious advice. to book an appointment with the gp asap.

if you have to ask why i referred to the family friend... then you'll never know to be frank.

and i doubt chances have much to do with this to be honest. i doubt the gp will be highly pissed off if there turns out to be nothing wrong with the op. but it's better to be safe.

and yes i do know what the actual cause of death was. don't patronise me.

This isn't something that's coming and going - it's come, and gone. Lots of people get twinges every so often, doesn't mean we should run to the doctor every time.

i know but it always starts with 'oh it's gone away... it's nothing... i'll see the doctor if it comes again' and this cycle just keeps repeating itself until it's too late

sorry perhaps i am overreacting a bit. i'm just suggesting an appointment to be booked with the gp. it's simply what i would do lol. i don't consider it rocket science tbh...

ok fair enough. but if the op is worried enough to start a thread on it on some forum, then why is it so illogical to suggest they see the doctor?

Why are you so angry? I only inferred from your post what you seemed to be implying, i.e. that the OP was stupid to be talking to TSR instead of a doctor right now. If they're going to talk to the doctor, it'll be tomorrow so what is so idiotic about making a thread on here at the minute? I didn't say you were flipping out, I said the OP shouldn't flip out just because they have a stomach ache. I wasn't patronising you asking for the cause of death, don't know where you got that from, I was just asking. How else am I supposed to find out? What's patronising about asking a question?
