Copper/Magnetic Pain Relief Bracelets

does anyone know if these actually work??

i know a lot of people swear by them, but do they work? and if so how?

two chemistry related people i asked said that copper ones are rubbish, but magnetic ones work - although the magnetic ones can mess up your pc?

ive tried researching but i just seem to get sites where people are selling them - unsuprisingly they dont go into much detail!

any help would be great! i need something to help with my arthritis

I know that they appear to work very well on horses (the magnetic type that is), and obviously I would consider that evidence better than for humans as animals can't kid themselves.

It didn't work for my grandmother. She threw the bracelet in her recycling bin, lol.

No harm in giving it a try. If it works, good. If it doesn't you've not lost anything. I can't see how it could make it worse, but if you do feel it's having an adverse effect, get rid of it.

As for messing up your PC... not really likely. If you put it too close to a TFT screen you'll get some weird colours but they can be got rid of easy enough just by turning it off for a while or degaussing. And you'd have to put it really close for it to do anything.
Magnets can effect things like floppy disks but I doubt the magnet is very strong and if it's on your wrist, it won't be close enough to things in your hand to damage them I don't think.

I think the official medical position is that they can't do you any harm and may have positive benefits for some people.

It can't do you any harm? Well it did cause harm to a number of people using it.

??? Quotations, citations, evidence please before you say random things like that?!

Read glaucon's post and mines again. Two peoples' family members suffered because of these bracelets. I'm sure there are many more out there...

Reply 15

You just said that it didn't work for your gran, not that it caused her harm? And not that I want to be disrespectful to glaucon but there is no scientific or medical reason why a magnetic bracelet would make arthritis worse. It maybe didn't help but there's no way they could advance the onset of the disease or anything like that.

And I don't think it's fair count a placebo effect as a positive benefit.

Well it wasn't random, was it? I was telling you what I remember the official medical stance to be, from what I read on the back of a packet of Bioflow bracelets. I can't seem to find the original quotation, though I do remember it saying that pretty clearly. But because I'm nice, here are some other sources, just for you, which don't agree with your opinion that they only work as a placebo. Besides, I already said about horses, who can't be affected by a placebo can they? They don't have the necessary brainpower. Or so some would have you believe....

Edited cos some of the links spazzed up.

My dad has worn them for years and he says the magnetic ones really help with his arthritis, but the copper ones are not as good.

Ive never worn a magnetic bracelet but i wear more powerful magnets and have a magnetic matress cover. I have huge problems with my muscles and i have found the magnets really useful in reducing pain. I think how they work is something to do with blood flow but dont quote me on that. The only downside is friends find it hilarious to stick things to u such as knives!
