How long did you have braces on for?

Being in year 12, I'm wondering how long I have to have these stupid things on for. I've had them on for about 6 months already and wondered how long most people had to have them on for. :smile:

Thanks for any help people can give on the subject.

Just gone past the two year mark, one more year to go at the very least. I'm in my first year at uni and it sucks, hope you get yours off before you get to uni.

Well I've had mine for ... 3 months ish. But you lot are really scaring me!
My orthodontist only said 8 months!

I had mine on for 3 YEARS. Gah. It was awful. But that was because I kept breaking them/not turning up for appointments. So keep it properly and it should be fine.

haven't you been told how long you will have them on for roughly by you orthondentist?
I didn't have the train track type of braces mine was like scaffolding in my mouth. I think I had them for about 10 months. I'm not really sure. My teeth aren't much better now anyway. but then I didn't wear my retainer when I was meant to.

ack i'm in year 12 and i'm getting them soon, my dentist said what I need is only basic so they won't need to be on for long but this thread makes me think I will be wearing them well into uni, lol.

I had mine for about a year, when I was 12/13. Everyone is different, though. Talk to your orthodonstist about it, and ask them how long they expect your treatment to take.

End of year 8 til end of year 10 then retainer for 6 months. :eek3:

But now I have perfectly straight teeth. :biggrin:

Yeah, make sure you don't break the bits or anything otherwise it takes longer. :p:

11 months for me, but i was told to wear the retainers at least twice a week for as long as i want straight teeth.... :redface:

I didnt wear them for like a month n then it killed to get them in again! Dont recommend that.... :smile:

Top brace was on for about two an da half years. Bottom one was on for a year and a half.

I was told that I would have them off within eighteen months, that wasn't the case though. It was well worth the wait though, my teeth look great. I now have to wear retainers every night.

I had mine for only 8 months and i had massive gaps that had to be closed. Once the braces are in your mouth your teeth can either move quickly or on the opposite end of the scale, really slowly like the person who had theirs on for 4 years. Most people average about 1-2 years tho. Dont worry about it tho, the pain is so worth the gain.
