Is John right to compare disabled people to malingerers?

Caller named John on LBC radio says he's 52, worked all his life, currently has a job and has paid taxes. After claiming the moral high ground he goes on to say there are a lot of disabled people but there are also a lot of malingerers.

"There are so many people who choose not to work who are malingerers that are pretending to be disabled for a free house, a free car, they don't pay any rent. they don't pay any council tax.".

He basically tried to instill the view that disabled people are malingerers,

He then goes on to say he wished one of his legs would get cancer so he could pack in working and live off the state.

He then goes onto say "why is my tax money going to these kind of people".

I don't know about you guys but that is disability hatred recorded on live radio.

The Tories deny there is some kind of campaign out to blame everything on the disabled. Well we now have people who aren't afraid of committing disabled hatred on live radio!

Great job your doing Tories!

How is this irrelevant? We're real people with real lives and real problems. Our government wants people to think we're scroungers because that directs hatred away from the terrible things they do.

Are you a disabled person? If so you might have to be subject to the ultra conservative hounding disabled people get on tsr. You really have to prove your circumstances to get any kind of recognition.

I'll let you in on something. Agree with everything the ultra conservatives say else you will be branded as some kind of social justice warrior who is trying to fake a disability in order to get attention.

This is what a couple of TSR members have told me in the past.

Well, no, he's attacking people who feign disability, not disabled people. Whether that's the scale of problem he might think is another issue, but if you cannot see that point then you're either illiterate or such a ludicrous ideologue that you've alienated all basic sense.

You have turned his words around to satisfy your own leftist pro-benefits agenda. He was clearly saying some aren't actually disabled and just say it for the benefits. Those that are actually disabled are not malingerers, those that lie about their disability are. Please stop being some manipulative benefit sponger.

I agree with OP

The current Tory government has massively utilized the mass paranoia of disabled people being spongers to push through huge cuts which damage those who are genuinely disabled. Yes this is just one caller making these comments, but this one caller represents a culture where hatred and suspicion of those most vulnerable has been normalised.
