For anyone currently at university, joining this year, or applying.

I'm starting Imperial this year. I'm interested by a number of societies, but trying to come to a reasonable number.

There are about five societies I'm interested in but there's only two I'm definitely going to join. I'll possibly choose one of the others to join as a third, I'm not sure. I just don't want to end up paying a membership fee and then never attending again. I'm wondering whether to join the societies for my subject though, I never considered that before.

I think it would build on your academic strength, and if you love your subject, you'll love the academic society. It's why I'm giving my college's Physics Society top priority.

It'd mean joining two though, because it's a joint subject over two different departments. It's the only reason I hesitated on it. As I said, there are two I'm definitely joining anyway so I suppose the most I'm going to end up joining is four. As much as I love trying new things, I also want some time to do dance lessons again and actually write essays at some point.

Any non-academic or outside subject societies you're thinking of joining?

Electronic music, comedy club, maybe cinema, skydiving and other stuff like that. I already do a martial art, so I'm covered there.

    I voted 3 but meant 4 :/

Planning to join the Baking, Anime, LGBT and Psychology society. Nothing else interests me except league of legends but im not joining a society for that lol.
Will have to leave the anime meets early to go to the LGBT ones but thats not a problem for me

I voted 1, but I just realised I'm a member of two societies - I forgot about my department one.

I tried out about 4 in Freshers, but have ended up focussing on just the 1. I am going to try out some other societies again this year too, but we'll see.
