Just a general question guys, how many case studies do you guys use for a 40 mark question?
Original post by Sacred Ground
Ecosystems
7 marker - unplanned / planned species
8 marker - animal adaptations
10 marker - tropical biome characteristics

What grade does everyone need in geography? How did you all do last year?

Planned species - London plane tree, michaelmans daisy, buddleia, Canadian golden rod, wheat
Unplanned - Oxford ragwort, Japanese knotweed

plant adaptations:
Drip tip leaves - prevents bacteria settling or leaf collapsing under pressure
Anthurium rotates to sunlight
Epiphytes - grow in canopy, get more sunlight
Buttress roots - support tall trees e.g. Kapok tree
lliana- grows up from under storey to canopy layer, obtain more sunlight
Bromeliad - vase shape, collects water like a funnel
Caniverous Venus fly trap - hair like structures on leaf, when 3 are triggered it closes
Giant toro leaf in Malaysia - large SA, maximum rate of photosynthesis

Animal adaptations:
Flying squirrel, flying lemur and flying gecko - flaps of skin, can glide between trees to escape predators
Anteater - great hearing, lives on forest floor where it's dark
Jaguar and vampire bat - nocturnal, hunt when it's dark to conserve energy
Leaf tailed gecko - shape and texture of tree bark, provides camouflage
Tiger - predator with camouflage
Many animals can swim - e.g. Turtles have webbed feet
Spider monkey - long tail so can balance in canopy
Chameleon - camouflage
Poison dart frog - secretes potent poison, deters predators
anyone have revision for ecosystems i may have please? thanks

Which modules do you do? I do tectonics, world cities and ecosystems so I can help you with the those, just tell me what you're worried about

Hello, I'm doing Plate Tectonics, World Cities and Conflict My predictions are...
Plate Tectonics - Earthquakes / Tsunamis
World Cities (ESSAY) - Decentralisation, Out of town retailing or Sustainability
Conflict - Maybe Multiculturalism ?
does any one have any ideas for any of these topics ? Thanks

Not at all, I'd be happy to help
For the tectonic essay on plate tectonics theory what points would you write to gain SYN marks ??

How many case studies do we need for tsunami's and earrhquakes? Do we have to have one LEDC and Medc for both?

You're not required to have a case study for tsunamis but it's always good to have one. Yeah for earthquakes you need 2 from contrasting areas of the world

Can there be an essay on the nature of earthquakes because they tend to ask this for volcanoes?
Reply 436
I reckon that there could be a Q like "explain the causes and characteristics of earthquakes" for 8 marks, and then contrasting management for 10 marks

do you mean like shallow and deep earthquakes, and all the wave types? P&S, Raleigh&Love. Bc i dont think theyll do a 40 marker on that.

It's got to be and no don't think there's anything else - ecosystems at a local scale isn't bad either tbf

It wasn't my favourite, once I'd figured out what it was asking I was fine but I still found it really odd and I'm worried they'll do that again this year because they've run out of things to ask and I'll spend half the time trying to figure out what the question is asking!! I don't mind fragile I think I've finally got my head round it, it's just remembering it all that bothers me. Are you definitely doing the Ecosystems 40?

Yeah I'm hoping they'll just re-word the question, cause for things like the rainforest, what else is there to ask??
Defo 100% doing ecosystems 40 marker, I think it's the easiest! I've already written 40markers for most of the essays, so just gonna memorise them really and hope they come up!! Wbu?

when they ask for planned and unplanned species could that include animals? or would they specify? also how many do we need to know for each? I had oxford ragwort for planned because i thought they introduced it for its aesthetic appeal :/
