We're doing our history controlled assessment, and at the moment we are analysing the given sources and gathering background information for the final write up after half term. It's on the First and Second World War.

Any tips on what to look for when analysing the sources? And any tips on what background information is necessary and the quantity?

Thanks

my controlled assessment for History last year was the roles of women in world war 1 and world war 2 which i got an A* on.
what we would look for in a source were;
1. What is the source, describe the source a bit e.g. background of the source
2.Explain if the source was useful/ not useful for your investigation and why.
3.Finally the provenance = where the source comes from, is it a reliable source, any bias, primary source or secondary source

for selecting your sources, i would choose a wide range; youtube videos, extratcs from tv documentarys such as BBC's World at War series, books, posters, newspaper articles.
choosing a wide range will allow you to write more in your conclusion and also comment on which were more useful and further more means you are less likely to repeat yourself.
hope this helps! and if you need anymore help message me and i will send you a document my teacher sent me which helped me a lot with the layout
