Toes!

My RH big toe is getting a bit painful when I push on the tissue surrounding the nail.

This has come on in the past few days, as we've had wet weather... this means that, since the bus roof leaks and nobody cares about having it repaired, I sit with my feet in 2-3 inches of water going to/from school. Thus my feet and socks are wet all day. This seems to have lead to all the skin going red and being painful when it's touched.

Anyone have any ideas / suggestions?

TIA

I just had something like this - could you be having an ingrowing toenail? Aw, it's very very very painful! Mine was pussy and everything - ew! I just kind of filed down the sharp part of my nail and tried to wedge some cotton wool in it to stop it pressing in so much. You could also go straight to the doctors and they'll do it for you.

This doesn't explain it getting it worse in the wet weather - that might be like a fungal infection - so a trip to the doctors for that too! xx

Try: Tea Tree oil
A randomized, controlled trial published in the Journal of Family Practice looked at the twice-daily application of 100% tea tree oil or 1% clotrimazole solution (a topical antifungal medication) in 177 people with toenail fungal infection. After 6 months, the tea tree oil was found to be as effective as the topical antifungal, based on clinical assessment and toenail cultures.

Another randomized, controlled trial examined the effectiveness and safety of a cream containing 5% tea tree oil and 2% butenafine hydrochloride in 60 people with toenail fungal infection. After 16 weeks, 80% of people using the cream had significant improvement compared to none in the placebo group. Side effects included mild inflammation.

A third double-blind study looked at 100% tea tree oil compared with a topical antifungal, clotrimazole, in 112 people with fungal infections of the toenails. The tea tree oil was as effective as the antifungal.

I agree. If it gets more painful, go and see your doctor, get it checked out.

Sounds like the beginning of an ingrown toenail.
I would go to your doctor asap just to get it checked out.
I had one when I was in year 8, so about 5 years ago, and the waiting list at the time was huge, I had to wait about 5 months for an operation, during which time the toe got infected and it caused infatigra(sp?) so on top of a pussy toe I had all blister type things come up over my hands and legs! They scared for a few years.
The toe was also rediculously painful.

Go to a doctor to be sure- because if it is, you'll be thankful you got on the waiting list before it has a chance to get as bad as mine!
