Have you asked at U-print on UMIST campus?

The Kilburn building do it more cheaply, I think, too.

Reply 4

Thanks for your replies.
Will check out the places mentioned.

Update: Cost of printing and laminating an A1 poster

printing.com - £34 + VAT

u-print- do not do A1 printing

IT support desk in Renold building - printing = £10 but you need to get it laminated elsewhere and total cost >£25

Kilburn - do not do it.

Thanks for your help peepz.
I'll just have to go for the Life Sciences Reprographics place then.

We have to do an A0 poster this year, laminated, my dept. sent me some info on where best to get it done, no doubt the email is at work and not in my uni account but I will let you know if it might help.

Reply 7

Sorry; the email is at work it seems, it gave us the cheapest method of doing it and I would have posted it on here for you in the morning but the forum is closed from 2am so that's not much help, again, sorry that's not much help.

pghstochaj: thanks for the thought though I doubt it'll mention any places other than the ones I've already investigated and ruled out.

Reply 9

I am pretty sure it does, PM me an email address if you want me to send it to you in the morning. I am probably wrong and it's one of the above places or very expensive, but maybe worth a try?

Got it

Print your A0 poster at Manchester Computing (formerly ISD) on ground floor of the Renold bulding. This will cost £10 for an A0 print and they can either print a file from a CD or a pen-drive (and also supposedly direct from your P-drive, though I haven’t tried that.) Printing usually takes 10 mins to half an hour depending on the queue. (Don’t let them resize to print at bigger than A0 - if left to their own devices they tend to do this to fit size of paper in their printer!)

Trim and laminate your poster at the Plastic Art Company, (2 mins walk away), located at 16 Chorlton St (by Canal St, next to the Mongolian Barbeque). Lamination normally costs £11.60+vat per A0 poster, or if you request matt finish, it will be £17,40+vat (or £15.15+vat for a batch of 5 or more). Lamination usually takes them about half a day, and they do accept purchase orders. (Tel 0161 236 1947).

No idea if that's of any help, remember those prices are A0 and may also be out of date - I got sent it 4 weeks ago but for all I know it hasn't been edited since 1998

Thanks for that - it's one I've already checked out. The prices are the same for A1 and again requires running to the Plastic Art Company for laminating but since they do it all on the same day, it's a firm contender at the mo. If we're using the Life Sciences unit, we're asked to submit it TWO WEEKS before we want to collect it!

Reply 12

Well that's nice, quick and efficient, oh wait, I just remembered, it is UofM

Reply 13

I don't think they actually take that long to do it. My course handbook advises we submit it two weeks before the submission due date, I suppose just as a precaution That's no good for people who leave things to the last minute!

I find it surprising that it costs so much.

Is that disease management stuff?
They did a special deal for us last year in the stopford. £20 between the 4 in our group, so a fiver each was ok.
Besides, they put on a bit of a feast at the presentation

Reply 15

Yup, it is for dis man.
The cost will be spread between two of us so we'll be digging out £12.50 each (can think of better things to spend it on)!

You guys got a feast?! We've just been told to stick them up in a room in Stopford before we break for Easter - no mention of presentation or feast.
