    Hi all,

I'm trying to build a network or at least make a few contacts in my industry (as a prospective Graphic Designer).

I am on LinkedIn, though aside from connecting to a few people I know (uni acquaintances, friends), I don't really chat on there, hence it isn't working for me.

I am not very productive on it, purely because I don't know what to talk about. I know it sounds silly. But really. Plus, I don't know many people.

Building a website or using LinkedIn is all well and good, but it requires constant attention, and even then there is never a guarantee of a success or job. What can I do to change this?

How can I build a network or enhance my chances of getting a job through more effective networking?

Use different platforms - what about Twitter? Also, find graphic design opportunities out there - even just very local ones - and Tweet and blog about them.

You have to combine your idea of effective networking with some output - if you don't have the output to point to, then the networking will not work.

    Graphic designers = need portfolio
