General Knowledge watch

I have some decent academic grades. But when it comes to general knowledge, I barely know anything.

I always fail immensely at quiz games, pub quizzes, quiz shows (when watching them) etc. And I learn new things from these experiences, and I can go online and research things to try to improve my general knowledge - but no matter how much I read up on and learn, when the next quiz happens, there is always still a huge amount that I don't know. The only thing I am remotely good at is media/entertainment. Everything else, useless.

Anyone else have this problem? Good grades but terrible general knowledge?
