Recently we have all received our results. Quite frankly I was kind of expecting to get what I got in a way, however, I am really confused over my Business and Econ comics (One AS subject not two) papers.

I did two units, achieving 70 UMS (Dead on B) in one and 68 UMS on the other ( 2 marks off a B). My predicated grade for Business and Economics GCE was an A, and in the previous mocks we have done - 3 in total - I achieved 3 A's. So I was very surprised to get my results back to only achieve a C overall. The exam board I did the course with was Edexcel.

Our school does not pay for remarks, and so I have to do it myself. Unfortunately, it costs £36 alone just to get the paper remarked (2x36=72). The reason I have posted is to ask if any of you know the reliability of edexcel when it comes to remarks. Have any of you had your grades boosted dramatically? Specifically in Business, Economics or Business and Economics? I feel I did better then what I received in the test and when I looked at the mark scheme the first 8 questions in paper 1 and paper 2 I know I got the multiple choice right. This would usually mean your explanation as to why it is right would be correct too.

I can't speak for Edexcel, but I had 1 AQA Business Studies paper remarked and it went up by 4 UMS.

The best thing you could have done would be to get them remarked 1 at a time, starting with the lowest. By doing both at the same time, you are running the risk of 1 paper increasing and the other decreasing simultaneously, as well as wasting money if for example 1 goes up by 10 UMS and the other stays the same. However, there is only 9 days until the remark deadline, so perhaps getting both remarked would be the best option. If you truly feel like you performed better in them, then go for it.

If you don't really know how you performed in them, then I suggest just getting the lower 1 remarked (the 68 UMS paper).

Time is getting very short for getting your paper(s) remarked. You cannot now apply for a copy of your script, but you if you do go for a remark, then there is the option of also requesting - for more money - a copy of the remarked script, to help you understand how the marking was arrived at.

Have you looked at the marking scheme and examiner's comments for the paper you took?

I assume that the school have explained that even though you are meeting the cost of the remark, you have to apply via the school exams officer, and that you will need to meet their internal deadlines for the remark application?

I think I saw that Windies has received quite a boost to his Edexcel Economics mark through a remark, but you need to be aware that any remark might easily result in a reduction of the marks awarded. This is particularly important if it is a subject that you are carrying onto A2, where additional marks lost now would need to be clawed back in your A2 papers. However, if this is the case, then going for the remark would at least give you and your teachers a clearer idea of whether to recommend that you resit the AS level in June 2016.

Hope this helps you decide what to do about the remark.
