Plastic surgery

Basically all throughout my childhood i had gynecomastia, and now at 19 im finding it is hindering my life too much. I dont like socialising or participating in any kind of group activity because im always conscious of what people would say if they noticed. Ive managed to cover it up quite well and i dont even feel comfortable talking to my family about it so only one if my siblings knows about it.

To the point, i saw my doctor recently and he said that he would write to a plastic surgeon but told me it could take a year on the waiting list to have any surgery. I honestly dont feel i could wait this long as it pretty much stops me from doing anything i want to do. Has anyone had plastic surgery on this forum because im thinking of having it done privately purely because i cant wait that long. I also am worried of any scars it would leave and generally the costs. Thx for any help.

A lot of people have gynecomastia, so you can be sure that you aren't alone. If you are afraid to talk to your immediate family about it, I assume you are looking to fund the surgery yourself? Which wouldn't be easy for anyone. Are you sure you cannot wait a little longer for the NHS, sure they might not be perfect but they yield the same results as private healthcare. It's really upto you whether you think you can hold out much longer.

My doctor told me that waiting lists used to be a year, and that it would take me about a month to get an appointment with a surgeon. So i guess id have to wait about 12+ months. I saw my gp in september so i had to wait 4 and a half months just to get my hospital appointment. Im currently on a gap year, and my gynecomastia is partly the reason why i chose to not go this year. This would mean that i would nearly be finishing my first year at uni when i had surgery, and therefore have a **** time thoughout. I honestly cant wait 13 months. Funding surgery i know will be tough but im currently working in a job and would be glad to pay for myself. It just means too much to me.
