Can I become an archaeologist with a history degree?

I want to study history at uni but I don't know whether I would be able to do a conversion course to archaeology after, would I have to have studied anthropology or ancient history instead?

Well. I am looking for a similar thing. I think once you at university you can switch courses anyway, but when picking modules I know there is definitely some overlap. The History degree tends to be from the Roman Empire to the present day, whereas on the Archaeology there is a bigger emphasis on the skills and techniques with the modules being Ancient History. If you are like me the Ancient History is more interesting than the history degree.

I will ask you a question. Do the likelihood of actually working in the field? I mean I think with a History degree you could probably get somewhere similar but it's a lot more adaptable for other jobs. I'd like to do research and work in a museum with sometimes digging.
