It's quite hard to get, even if you have unprotected sex with an infected person. That said, it's so potentially devastating that the low chances shouldn't defer anyone from using proper protection.

Anyway, so you had (presumably) unprotected sex over 6 months ago and are now panicking because you have some very non-specific symptoms. I think it's highly unlikely the two are connected, and it doesn't sound like a stereotypical HIV presentation anyway. Clearly you're worried though, so for your own peace of mind go and get tested (for all STIs, not just HIV).

what she said *scuffs heels*

I have nothing to add that would be constructive other than what Helenia said except that STI clinics aren't as scary as everyone says.

Loving the title. I know it's not funny but it made me smile a little.
Can you catch AIDS? I thought you caught HIV which developed into, or led to, AIDS?

This is true, if you're being pedantic.
I'm a notorious pedant.

Does it hurt being attached to a chain constantly (sorry to tempting)?!

Seriously now I don't think it's worth being pedantic about HIV or AIDs both are with you for life and both aren't a nice disease to have (although I'm yet to find a nice disease)! However the OP doesn't have many symptoms. I'm tired and achy and have had unprotected sex but it's because my mattress is crap!

how easy is it go get? i know this is probably ridiculous but i hooked up with someone over the summer and i've recently been feeling achy and tired. could be stress, but i'm so worried. hopefully just being a hypochondriac?...

THe flu like symptoms of HIV infection tend to occur int he first 4 weeks of infection, not 6 months later.

but if you had unprotected sex with someone that you are even having thse thoughts about then go get checked out.
you might not have hiv, but there are other things like the clap and gonorrhoea you could be carrying.

God, I do feel smug i can spell gonorrhoea and diarrhoea these days...

god bless us medics eh?

It's always worrying when your doctor/nurse can't spell. I know it shouldn't affect the job but what if they misspell your prescription?! Thank god for the professionals on TSR, you give me faith in case I ever hand up in a medics hands!

I always thought the clap was gonorrhoea?

Anyways OP do what everyone else has said and go get checked out for everything. It'll put your mind at rest!
Don't be too worried

i have always refered to the clap as either gonorrhoea or chlamidia (a word i still have trouble with)
It's spelled chlamydia I think. I thought the clap was gonorrhoea as well.

Traditionally, the clap = gonorrhoea; the pox = syphilis. I have a book about things like that
It never ceases to amaze me just how educating TSR can be
