Congratulations

I really like Edinburgh as a city, but apart from their prospectus/website I don't know much about the course. So far I have 3 offers for AAA two of which were also my top choices so I'm hoping Edinburgh offer me something a little easier to obtain .
Exact same here, i've got 2 offers of AAA, and rejected from Sheffiel which would have been my insurance.

Instead, im banking on Edinburgh to make me an offer and that to be my insurance.

yeah i was dyeing for an offer from there and ended up getting an uncondional offer  . I'm just gonna go to the open day this wednesday and see what it's like, but I'm quite sure i'm gonna have it as my firm.
Anyone got any say on edinburgh's reputation for architecture?

I got BBB from Edinburgh just last week. Its going to be my insurance too I think, just waiting on UCL (still..) I'm going up on 21st just to have a look around.
The first year course is very intense. A lot of the first project is based around abstraction of images (you have to take photos over the summer holidays for first project) and you 'decoding' the images down. You learn new skills from the start; producing bas-reliefs, casting, wood-working, etc.

The studio atmosphere is fantastic, with the first and second years sharing a studio. You, however, don't get 24hr access (O, you'll wish you could!) until 3rd year, I think.

To accommodate RIBA rules, you have to take Architectural History 1C and Technology & Environment 1A and B.

There is no exam for Architectural Design 1, just 100% coursework and at the end of every project you pin up your work in crit rooms and then subsequently have a crit - where you explain and present your work to 2 or 3 of visiting architects and course organisers.

However, for T&E and AH you have preliminary exams in December (before everyone else!) and then exams in May.

During the year, you have projects for T&E and AH, with a precedent study that combines AD and AH and you get to study historical buildings in a group - such as Wright's Falling Water, Corbusier's Villa la Roche, House of Menander, etc.

Uhm, any more questions just PM me or whatever... I have to get back to work (!) for tomorrow.

O yeah, fridays are 9:30 until 5pm in the studio with tutorials. Hah.

And when people tell you its a hard slog - you better bloody believe it.

I really hope I get an offer now, it sounds really fun, perhaps it was a bad idea to ask before I know if they want me or not...

i've had an offer from

cardiff
edinburgh
sheffield
newcastle
bath
nottingham

all of which I can easily get into with my grades... where do you think I should go... I'm quite confused but inclined to Edinburgh!...

Thanks

out of all those unis, edinburgh and nottingham are ranked the lowest, 10th and 11th respectively for K100. where as cardiff is ranked first and i belive sheffield 3rd, newcastle is up there with bath. so i dont want 2 mix up ur mind but i think that dis would be an important matter to consider.but at the end of da day they r all top unis so....

hopefully you've visited most, if not all of them? its a huge commitment to make without speaking to the year heads, seeing the studio space, workshop facilities, amount of computing facilities, the feel of the building. bear in mind, this is where you will be spending the lion's share of your life for the next five+ years.

Just found out today that I got a rejection, oh well, can't have everything!
Reply 12
I'm really sorry about the rejection, gutted for you. But hey, at least you have your other top offers eh

Thanks, I'm not so disappointed now, after my visit to Sheffield it may have been hard to sway me to Edinburgh anyway. Good luck to anyone else applying who hasn't heard!

Yeah I remember they told us that at the applicants day. Just wondering, would I need a good camera while doing the course? As I take it you use it alot in projects and stuff!!!!!!!!
A good camera is definitely a plus. You don't need anything like an SLR, but a decent camera would be helpful.

You use cameras to mostly document your work throughout projects, but also to investigate aspects of your models; mostly lighting etc and use it to present in crits.

Camera becomes an integral part of the course in the second semester when you go on a class trip (!) to an island and have to take photos of everywhere to decide where to build a 'retreat' for yourself and so forth.

Hey, would like to know is it true that all those who get into this course have completed their A-levels? Is it possible for me to apply using my diploma result? My diploma is 3 years and now I have completed 2 years, is it possible for me to get an unconditional offer by just completing two years of diploma? anyone did that before? help and advices are needed here. thanks
When will they tell if you get an offer?

No one can answer that. I'm not aware of a date at which Edinburgh hands out all of their offers, as good as that would be!

I didn't apply to Edinburgh but I know from other universities that they can keep you waiting for a very long time. Cardiff didn't give me an offer until a few weeks before the UCAS choices deadline (as far as I can remember).

Good luck though.

Okey, thought they had a certain deadline per university. When is the UCAS choices deadline?

Thank you!
