Getting past small talk

Give me some good openers to get past the small talk mumbo jumbo crap at college, Doing maths chem bio physics. Also do you guys think its acceptable for me to talk to girls who are not in my class and I don't know as in 'chat' them.

Of course its acceptable. They're humans too you know. Stop over complicating.

If you think a girl is good looking let her now and make your intentions clear. None of this child play.
