I'm starting work on a temp contract and will be getting paid via an 'umbrella company'. I have been employed before, but to be honest I never pay much attention to my payslips (beyond the actual amount I'm paid) and all of this is new and confusing to me.

Apparently I will be able to claim for certain work related expenses, which will reduce the amount of my wage that I am taxed on. I think there are certain fees involved though, and I'm unsure how much money I will actually save.

Does anyone understand this style of pay at all, and is it worth it?
