So I just found out how much my loan is going to be after my dad's new pension, and it'll cover the cheapest accommodation and not much else. So not taking into accommodation, just living costs, how much do you think the minimum amount of money a year you'd need to survive?

It's different for everybody. You need to take into consideration your lifestyle also.

For example: can you live without Heinz ketchup? Food shopping is EXPENSIVE and all those £1.99's add up. Do you eat out a lot? Are you a big drinker/like to go clubbing? Some people on here say that they can survive on £10-15 a week but if you want a social life, you realistically need a fair bit more. Try to get a part time job and it would help to create a budget and buy things in bulk like rice, pasta etc.

You could probably get away with £1,000 for the year, so £20 per week for food then £13 for socialising would cover 2 outings each week. You wouldn't have any room for unexpected costs though

If I HAD to, I could live on £35 a week. But it wouldn't be comfortable and I'd miserable.

Thanks, that's really calmed my nerves. I was looking at uni sites that were saying you'd need about £12,000 a year, which included accommodation, but it still seemed an awful lot!!

It depends on the lifestyle you lead my basic bills are over 100 a day but I'm not a normal student
