    as a new student in engineering at durham i am interested in advice about the best laptop to get. can a macbook air run all the software required for an engineering course?

    You won't need anything more than a middle of the road laptop with windows 8, 8Gb of RAM and 1Tb of hard drive. There will be no intense graphics necessary as you will be mostly running word processing, spread-sheets and power point!

    Just check with the engineering department on the software they recommend.

    Don't get a macbook.

    There are certain bits of software that you'll use over the course of your degree that either do not work well, or do not work at all, on macs.
