I've just started, on the advice of my dentist. It's so fiddly and annoying but it does seem to make a difference.

Never have done and probably never will.

It is a good idea to floss, I thought my teeth and gums were fine until I went to the hygienist who said otherwise (altho it is soooo expensive to go i suppose its better than having revolting teeth when I'm older :frown: ) ...now I'm trying to floss most days.

Reply 23

I did it for a few months but never really got the 'vibe' from it, lol, so I just don't now. Seeing as I'm about to get braces I don't think I could anyway! Mouthwash and a good workout with my electric toothbrush are all I need

Grr, I hate 'hygienists'. I don't see what they do that dentists don't, except charge you another £30 to tell you that you have a bit of plaque. If you're happy with the state of your teeth and they feel clean then who cares really.

I floss. My teeth always feel cleaner if i do. However, i don't do it on a regular basis..maybe twice a week or so.. I guess i should do it more really.
The only downside is it makes my gums bleed sometimes :frown:

After reading this thread i went and bought floss. I know i'm cool

Reply 26

You definitely definitely should but it's such an arse. Toothbrushes can't get rid of some of the crap in between that floss can and dentists would prefer you to floss than brush.

Reply 27

Yes.

EDIT: You just get into the habit of it, I'd feel yuck if I didn't do it some days!

Reply 28

I don't floss my teeth. I think brushing them 3 times a day is enough, plus i'm lazy lol :p:

that's because you don't do it on a daily basis!

Gums only bleed because the gums are slightly inflammed due to the plaque between the teeth - if you floss regularly the bleeding should stop as the gums will heal - obviously be gentle and dont ram the floss up into the gums as obviously they will bleed. And it does make such a difference. Between the teeth is where much plaque accumulates and the toothbrush can't remove - if it is left it is much more likely that caries will develop and you may need a filling.

How often should one floss? Every day? Morning and evening? Every other day?

Reply 32

I floss every morning and evening. (aswell as brushing). If i don't floss my mouth feels dirty.

Reply 33

I floss once a day (in the evening).

Reply 34

you definately definately should! i use a toothbrush and mouthwash but after flossing there's still stuff that it hasn't got out! it helps fight gum disease and thats been proven to help prevent heart disease too!

Reply 35

Just a note one of the main reasosn to floss is to prevent GUM DISEASE - one of them most common disesses that people have (and probably don't know it)

I do floss but not regularly!

They have floss in the UK?

Totally kidding!!

Reply 37

Right, this may be a very stupid question, but are you meant to floss between ALL your teeth? Because I actually physically can't reach the back of my mouth to get to those teeth, I swear my mouth doesn't open wide enough!
