Fridges & freezers don't cool food by blowing cold air or water on them, they take heat out & get rid of it.

Religion tries to "cool you down" but the Spirit of God within changes your environment, it separates your sinful nature from you by giving you a new cooler environment.

Note: you have to have another power at work, the coolant mechanism, just putting food in a fridge (a "dead" religious organisation) won't work.

You are not considering the whole system.

Refrigerators and freezers do subject their contents to cold air; it is by conduction that the heat is extracted. This heat they then expel into the external environment. In so doing, they also generate heat because they need energy to function.

Following your analogy, religions generate heat by causing upset in external communities while focusing on a few individuals.
