Is 5 years the gap between Smear Tests ?

I thought it was 3 years.

I had to have one when I was 19, as I had a cervical infection that was causing me to bleed for no reason. I havent had one since though, and I was told recently by my nurse that they dont invite people anymore that are under the age of 25, but I suppose that it would depend on the circumstances.

The gap that they ask you to go back is 3 years if you are 25-49 and 5 years if you are 50-64, but this is only for those who were originally invited for a smear test after 2003.

It's still 20 in Wales for some reason.

Anyways I think the best thing is to go and not make a big fuss about it. The doctor/nurse will have seen it all thousands of times before and it's over pretty quickly. It's not like you're doing it in public with everyone having a gawp! When I had mine it was uncomfortable for a bit but it wasn't painful as such. If they do hurt you too much when they're doing it then tell them!

I went for mine a couple of weeks ago, and it was absolutely fine. I wasn't self concious in the least! They've done it hundreds of times and have had smears done themselves.. They are medical professionals and encourage the importance of cancer screening in young women.

Good luck with some of you having babies
