It's shameful to admit it, but while watching Hollyoaks (yes, I'm a big fan! :redface:

) this week with the whole Amy having a baby at 15, it got me wondering & I thought this might make an interesting discussion.

What would you do if you found out you were pregnant? Say you found out you were now.... (I don't want to turn this into another pro/against abortion thread. I just want to know how you would cope) Have you been this situation & if so, how did you deal with it? Have you had a scare? Would you see getting pregnant as a positive or a negative thing right now in your life.

Do you ever want children? Why/why not? What age do you see yourself having children?

I'm 17, have a boyfriend who I've been with for a month. If I found out I was pregnant, I'd have an abortion. I wouldn't even think about keeping it. I'm going to university in September, I don't want to ruin that. I'm still in college. I don't want children ever, let alone now! It's probably the most negative & unwanted thing to happen right now.

I'm 20, and been with my boyfriend for 3 years. If I were to get Pregnant I would keep it. I wouldn’t even consider getting rid of it. My boyfriend has said time and time again that if I were to get pregnant he would want me to get rid, but there’s no way I could do that.

i'm 20, halfway thru a medical degree and only been iwth my bf for a month. i think it is unlikely i would keep it, but i dunno how i would act if it actually happened. i know my bf would want me to abort it, but i'm not sure what woul acutally happen in the situation. there's one thing to hypothesise but you never know until u are acutally in that situation...
i think if i actually had it too with the plan to give it for adoption, there woul be no way i could give it away either...i bet it'd be too cute...

hi i have experienced this i was 16 at the time, i had sex the condom burst then took morning after pill 1st thing in the morning and it didnt work then i know im pregnant morning sickness etc,i wasnt going to tell my mum but she worked it out for her self and said that i had to get rid and she was telling my x boyfriends mum and dad, he dumped me when he found out that i was pregnant, but his mum and dad and him and my mum and dad kinda decided it was the best thing for everyone if i just got rid as i was only 16 so i didnt get a choice and i always wonder what it would have been like, and i think now being 19 i would like kids

I really wouldnt want to drop out of uni so I'd probably abort. Then again I dont think you can really know what you would do unless it actually happens.

Some context is probably useful - I'm 6 years older than 15 & I don't know about Amy's situation (not a hollyoaks fan here!) but have a long term boyfriend.

There's been one occasion where I thought it was a possibility (despite being on the pill) which was terrifying. He was hugely supportive - including actually going to buy the test! :redface:

It's not something we plan right now, so from that perspective it would be a negative.

But during the scare my immediate thoughts weren't 'it's fine - I can get an abortion' , even though my Mum seemed to assume that what I would do (!) and I think I would seriously consider having the child if I were to become pregnant and my boyfriend supported the idea. Even though the timing would be fairly dire (unmarried and midway through professional training) we've discussed having children eventually - they themselves would be a positive. :p:

If I found out I was pregnant now, I would understandably freak as I am so careful with contraception. I am in my 2nd year of my degree so as you can understand it would mess me up, although I understand there would be options. I am in a stable relationship & we definatly want children in the future if we are still together. We are both too young at the moment (20 & 23) & we've only been together 2 years. However, saying all this, I don't think I could face an abortion. I'm not too sure if my bf could either as we haven't really discussed it if it happened now. Yes, I've had a small scare (failure of contraception), but it turned into nothing. As for thinking upon the situation as a positive/negative thing, I'd say initially it would be negative, but it could develop into a positive aspect further along the line. I want children & would have one now if it was the right time, but I want to wait a while & live a bit first. I see myself having children in my mid to late 20's. I don't want to be an old mum.

I would be completely terrified. At 18 years old, i'm not particularly old but i'm not particularly young either. I know plenty of girls who are coping with children and have a fantastic life. If I was to find out I was pregnant, I would have the baby and be the best mother I could be. I would put off University and my nurse training until the child was older. I wouldn't give up on my future career, just put it on hold for a bit and do what I can to support my child.

I've been with my boyfriend a year, he doesn't want to be a father right now and if his parents found out I was pregnant, they would disown him without a doubt. They are very strict like that, they would want me to have an abortion and if I didn't, they would have nothing to do with me, their son or the child. I know that for a fact. For that reason, I wouldn't expect him to stay with me as terrible as that might sound but as a father, he should take an interest in his child.

I couldn't have an abortion, it's something that I would regret. If I found out I was pregnant, I would face up to my responsibility as a mother and do the best job I could.

Oh lord if I found out I was pregnant I'm not sure what I'd do. I'm 19 and on my Gap Year right now, and don't have a boyfriend (so I guess it's not really a worry :p:

) but if I had a boyfriend, and if something happened (i.e a condom broke) and I became pregnant then I would seriously consider an abortion. Having said that I do want children eventually, and not too late either I'd ideally like to be in my mid to late twenties- I don't want to be an old mum either.

Right now, I'd have an abortion straight off. If I could at all, I wouldn't tell my bf or parents or anyone though I probably would have to eventually for money. There'd be no point in anyone knowing as I'd just do what I wanted anyway. I'm in my 3rd year at uni and wouldn't give it up to have a baby. I'd like to have kids a few years after uni though, I want to be a young mum :smile:

I definately want to have my first child before I'm 30. I dont want to be an old mum because I'm worried about the health problems assosiated with it.

If I found out I was pregnant right now then I would definitely keep the baby. I'm 22, my boyfriend is 25 and wants children... There would be no problem. I did get pregnant last May and was going to keep the baby then, but had a miscarriage.

I know you dont want to turn this into an abortion debate, but it's bound to eventually...I would have an abortion, no question, if I became pregnant at this point in my life. I don't ever see myself wanting children, so I imagine this would be response for whenever you asked me. When I was regularly having sex with my now ex-boyfriend and it was coming up to the time I should have my period, I'd always be worried that I could be pregnant. My period's a bit irregular anyway, so I used to get quite worried about it. Actually somehow being compelled to go through with the pregnancy would be a hugely negative thing for me, but since that couldn't happen, I'd be sort of indifferent to the whole thing. It would be an inconvenience, but since I know exactly what I'd do, I wouldn't see the occurence of temporary pregnancy having a big impact on my life. If that makes sense.

As I have said, I don't ever see myself having children. When I tell people this they say "oh, you'll change your mind when you get older", which really annoys me. I resent that some know-it-all thinks they have more insight into my mind than I have myself!

hmm, at this stage in my life, halfway thorugh my architecture training, despite having a long term, supportive bf, i would probably get an abortion. sad as it is, it wouldn't be fair on the kid, esp as its dad will have to leave us and do 2 years of military service in the next few years. we both do want kids, but not yet. i want them to grow up knowing their father.

i know he's be a great dad tho... aww *goes all soppy thinking about it* and they'd probably be really cute, mixed chinese and english.

Im 24 this year and I often feel pressurised by people (my bfs family in particular) to have a baby, but its not something Im really concerned about at the moment, I want to get married first (which is next year) and get a decent job. If I found out I was pregnant now theres no way I would keep it, even though we have been together for 6 years. I just wouldnt feel ready.

well technically for me because I'm a lesbian and therefore don't sleep with guys, I won't be getting pregnant till I want to.. but let's see if I did get pregnant at my age I would want to keep the baby and I think I'd be able to cope because when my brother was born (I was 10).. I kinda took over with looking after him lol I used to feed him, change his nappies to give my mum a break.

My mum got pregnant at 16 and the baby was 2 months premmature (this was in 1979).. and died just hours after the birth, my gran was extremely un supportive and wouldnt even say anything about the baby to my mum, just expected her to get on with things as if nothing had happened which hurt her a lot!

by the way I've been watching Hollyoaks too and I hope Amy doesn't give in to her bully of a mother! little Leah should not be brought up as Amy's sister OR put up for adoption! she's Amy's child!

I would love to have a baby - physically I suppose most girls are at their peak at age 20/21, and I have a lot of love to give. However, it simply isn't going to happen as my boyfriend and I are in no position to afford it, and I don't believe in sponging off other people's money just because you want a baby. It's simple in my eyes - you have a kid, you pay for it. End of. As much as it would break my heart, I would probably have to abort if I found out I was pregnant at the moment - I still have 4 terms of being at uni to go, we can't afford it, and my parents would go mad (they're strict but not religious, and don't believe in having a child outside of wedlock).

I would love to have children one day though, for the reasons already stated; and I would like to have children before I'm 30, just because I think we'll be married and financially stable enough by then and also because I think that for the most part, women's bodies are less suited to having children after the age of 30/35.

after watching the episode where she gave birth i had a dream i got pregnant and had an abortion. nice insight into my nightlife i know. i dunno if i'd do the same in reality though.

Firstly I would probably let my boyfriend know before anyone else but I would end up aborting if I fell pregnant now. I want to get my degree and get a good job before I even consider having children.
