iPod and volume and ears and hearing and iPod.

I had never used an iPod before but I could imagine that it would go loud - probably louder than my own mp3 player (my mobile phone).

However, today I tried an iPod and they go FRICKIN' loud - so loud the sound distorts - I assume its simialr on all of them...infact my optimal level is below the halfway mark - maybe a little more in louder palces liek on the street/tube.

Who listens to their music THAT loud? IMO you are just asking for problems with your hearing in the future!

depends on the earphones really.... if you try using those dj styley headphones which go over your ears full volume is just about enough.... and sometimes not enough depending on the song.

I remember when my Ipod's loudest volume was unbearable.

Now after just over 2 years of usage, the loudest setting is standard, almost quiet at times. I have my laptop playing now at absolute maximum volume. It's just better. Hearing damage is a bitch, oh well, i'll worry about it when I go fully deaf in 30 years time.

I don't understand why people listen to their music so loud... if I can hear it from the other side of the bus, surely it must be painful for the person with it right in their ears?! I have poor hearing, yet I always have iPod volume on the minimum I can while still being able to hear it, which even on the noisiest bus ride is never more than halfway. Then when I get off the bus I have to turn it down otherwise it hurts.

Just buy a decent pair of earphones. I use the Shure ****PTH and it's great!!! I just need to use about 5% max volume on the iPod as it cancels all outside noise. With the added benefit your ears don't tire and the range is great. But it's damn expensive.

I use senheisser PX 220's and they go ****ing loud... they're like mini speakers  ... and yes I am slowly going deaf - but heavy metal doesn't sound good quiet...

yep

i just have the standard ipod ear phones. have it a bit below full. some times lower, dpends on the song really.

i should probs have the sound a bit lower, but then outside noises interfere hence runining the song.

anyway it isnt as bad as being a musician.

or for that matter going to a gig and being real damclose to the speakers, your ears ring for days i swear. that isnt good.
