2 Which of the following ions would be deflected most in a mass spectrometer?
    A 35Cl+
    B 37Cl+
    C 37Cl2+
    D (35Cl —37Cl)+

the markscheme says the answer is C. can someone explain to me why it is so?
Isnt deflection least for heavier ions?

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

C has a charge of 2+ whereas the others have a charge of 1+. The charge is greater and therefore deflects the most. Deflection is the least for heavier ions, however the number of electrons is what has been changed here so this will not affect the mass of the ion.

You're right. Since m/z is mass over charge, double the charge means half the mass which in turn means it will be deflected the most.

Those elements which are heavy and carries a more positive charge that deflects most
