Other benefits of the LPC

I've applied to do my LPC at Chester commencing September but I'm not sure if I will go. It seems like such a huge gamble to spend thousands of pounds on the course and to move over there in the seemingly vain hope that I will gain a TC.

My question is, if I fail to obtain a TC, will employers in non-legal fields look at my CV any differently if I have the LPC?

Be positive....You will get a TC!

That did sound quite defeatist.

I may take a year out and try to get some relevant work experience because currently by CV is bereft of legal stuff. :frown:

Vacation Schemes?

I don't think an employer in a non-legal field would rate a candidate with an LPC higher than one without. Why would they? It would surely offer them little to no practical benefit if you were applying for a completely non-legal role. Further more, it may look like you're a failed or disillusioned lawyer desperately trying to find another career that you haven't thought out.

You are in university at the moment right? Apply for some vacation schemes and load your CV up with work experience. If you are able to get vacation work with even small to mid-size firms you should be able to get a TC with similar ones.

Also I remember you saying that you had a strong 2:1 in another post so academically you meet the required standard. So long as you have decent extra-curriculars and can get through an interview you should be able to get a TC. Be a bit positive - now is not the time to be thinking about your other opinions. Focus on getting that TC.

ONBH is right. The LPC will not mean much to non-legal employers, who will look at your degree & A-level academics. They are not going to care that you have spent a year ticking boxes on a vocational legal course, and why should they. If you are 100% sure you want to be a solicitor, keep going for that TC and get some work experience to beef up the CV. Good luck.
