I would like to study software engineering at university, and a lot of the universities make decision maths a desirable module to study at A-level. However, my sixth form have told me unless I can find a university that requires it, I cannot switch, as switching will just be an "inconvenience" to the school, and to stop others from wanting to switch, which obviously means that it's not impossible to switch, it's just they don't want to. I'm wondering how I could take this further to be able to switch, or whether I should try to find another sixth form.

it is desirable but not essential ...
If you are keen and conscientious you can spend the summer teaching yourself the decision modules without passing exams. This will in fact show to Universities that you possess additional qualities

I would challenge them on how inconvenient it would be but that may not be wise.

Maybe ask if you can do both, but D1 in private so it doesn't look like you've switched to anyone? I imagine the best one will go to your overall grade.

Or have it mentioned in your PS or reference that you're studying it by yourself for interest/preparation.
