Conjunctivitis. Doctors note?I had conjunctivitis last week and my eye was completely shut over and was green and crusty.
My doctors surgery is always really busy and it is hard to get an appointment so I went on the NHS website which told me to stay off work till the infection cleared.
I went to the chemist and was given antibacterial eye drops and took Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday off college ( that s the only days I m in) I also took today off (Tuesday) because my eye is still really sensitive however it is the first day I have woken up without crust and gunge around my eye. My eye is still red but the infection seems to have cleared up so I emailed my Lecturer telling her I would be returning to college tomorrow.
However she has informed me that as I have been off for 8 days in a row (I ve only missed 4 days of class as I am only in college 3 days a week) I have to have a doctors note. I didn t see my doctor at any point in the last week as I knew it was conjunctivitis and with the advice from the NHS website and the woman in the chemist giving me eyedrops I didn t want to take up an appointment when I didn t feel it was urgent and had been given anti bacterial eyedrops to clear the infection from the chemist.
What should I do? Should I call my GP ? Will the be able to give me a note?
I emailed my lecturer the first day of my absence with pictures attached of my eye and have the receipt with the date the eyedrops were issued to me.

You've probably sorted this by now but go back to the chemist and see if they'll write you something, if not hopefully just the photo and receipt will just be enough. The policy seems a bit pointless in this case but I guess there's good reason behind it, hopefully they'll let you off anyway as they can see you did have a reason for it! You did the right thing going to the chemist rather than GP anyway with something like this unless it was really bad or wouldn't go away, hope your tutor respects that
