The Student Room Group
unsure on what the rent is, as its now a year since i was in halls.

you have to get a permit for the car parking, you'll be given a form with your accomidation forms during the summer sometime, so its nothing to worry about.

the biggest positive is its only across the car park from the main campus buildings, so its takes about 2-3mins to get to lecture! also all the rooms are only 6years old and are en-suite.

cant think of any major drawbacks, though it could do with better social facilities (the current ones are porta-kabins), though i believe they are going to build some sort of common room in the future.

I stayed at that college on a summer school a few years ago and the accomodation was nice enough if a bit blue.

I liked Stephenson and the people too.

What I want to know is: What do people do in their leisure time, particularly at weekends???? (sensible answers only, please!!) Stockton and Thornaby looked a bit dire, but maybe I missed something. I like football, squash, tennis - is there a social side to these sports? What else is there other than the porta -cabins? Please sell me the 'social' side of Stockton campus and convince me I can live there for at least 3 years.

Cheers
I went to the open day on the 28th for John Snow and they said rates were 3300 for the year if that is any help. i should think snow and stevo are the same rates??

Please excuse any typos, as I have just come back from an AWESEOME night out at the local Monday night student spot - Che Bar! Football, i think Stevo have about 3 teams, and they are out on socials loads. They also play in leagues, and go to Durham for matches etc. Tennis, im not sure about, i only know that there is definitely a Stevo tennis club. One of my friends plays squash for Stevo at one of the local sports centres and he seems to have a great time of it too. Weekends...a typical one for me...I do Biomed, so unfortunately a fair bit of it is work, but i still have fun. Friday night, i might go to 'Vodka frenzy' at Teesside union in Middlesbrough if i fancy a night out. Its awesome. Saturday daytime i usually catch up on some work or might have a league badminton match. Sat 5-7 i have badminton training. Then if i fancy a night out, theres the Rocket union or Empire in Middlesbrough. Sunday lunchtime i normally head down the local pub (local to campus anyway) for one of their fantastic Sunday lunches. If i dont do that, ill go to Logans coffeeshop for a hot chocolate (one of their nine different types!) and catch up with a friend or two. Sunday night, do some work or go to the cinema. Anyway, im tired now so am not going to write a lot more. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask away!

It looked good you know! I'm looking for a place that you described above.. I liked the fact that everything is new and not old and rubbish like all the other unis I've seen. .. :s-smilie:

Halls charges this year work out to be about £100 per week inc 2 evening meals a week.

My typical week goes something like this:
Monday - Lectures, College Dining and then out to Che (the only place to be on a Monday!) after a brief pit stop at the Tom Sheraton
Tuesday
Wednesday - Seminars til Midday, Sport during the afternoon, College Dining, Cinema at Showcase on Wednesday night.
Thursday - Lectures and a relatively quiet night in with my mates
Friday - Planet of Sound at the DSU
Saturday - Shopping at Teeside Park, Stockton or Boro and later matches then onto Empire in 'Boro
Sunday - Chill out with mates maybe have a pint at the Dubliners

All in all it's a good time and you'll have a ball!

I looked at the campus last week and I liked it. Any idea how much accomdation is weekly and car parking? I also noticed that other Durham Colleges have set up a thread of their own so I kinda felt a bit left out  so I've made this one.

Could you also list some positives and negatives about being at Stephenson college?

Expensive :p:.

DSU up in Durham, 5min train ride to Middlesborough (if clubbing is your thing, you won't be spoilt for choice). Che Bar on a monday of course :p:. Stockton has quit a few hidden treasures in terms of pubbage also - Moby Grape and the George & Something in particular. Or if you like it gritty, just wander into G.W.Horners and speak in a southern accent .

There is plenty to do .

They barely ever check rail tickets between Thornaby and Boro so dont buy one before!!!
