WARNING: long wall of text incoming (definitely worth the read though).

i have a (white) friend who lives there and he invited me to come for the day since france is only about 3 hours away from london in a car. now, my mum warned me saying that they really hate algerians (im algerian) but i (nicely) told her to shutup because its the 21st century and the **** that happened back in her day probably doesn't .

anyway, i got there and noticed that everyone looked so angry, old and depressed for some reason - it was strange. we went for a drive around the center of calais and got pulled over by some mean looking french policemen with pistols and hand grenades attached to their belt. they stopped us and asked for our papers. we showed them our passports and they let us go. when i asked them why they pulled me over they just said "control".

after that, we see a group of homeless people (children, women, men ...) outside a supermarket and they started talking to us. we learnt that they were actually refugees (they were showing us pictures of babies on fire and loads of other messed up **** that was going on in their country) and they were asking us to buy them water. these guys were legit the nicest people i've ever met. we went in the supermarket and bought them water and food. some pakistani guys from england found us and there and told us about how they got stopped, searched, and interrogated for 4 hours by french police at the border. after those guys left me and my friend agreed that they were talking absolute smack there was no way that happened based off the fact that they were brown lol. anyway they left and the supermarket security were giving me and my friend really dirty looks (i assumed it was normal in france to have a permanently angry face - based off the few hours i was there). they got on their phone and 3 police cars come to the scene. they didn't speak to us, they just chilled there and watched us chat to the refugees. we said goodbye and drove off - that's when the police started following us and eventually pulled us over (again). they asked for our passports (again), searched our car and kept asking me if i was a journalist. they found nothing in the car and when i asked them why i was pulled over, they said "control" (again).

it was pretty obvious that we were getting pulled because i was algerian when we thought about the fact that he was living there for 2 years and has never been stopped by police, but we agreed that the ultimate test would be to see if they stop me at the border when i drive back to england. there were 3 cars in front of me trying to get past the border and they went through w/o any problems. guess what happened to me? yep - "control". they searched every inch of my car and myself and gave me the same "control" nonsense and let me through. when i got to the english border i was cracking jokes with the old cockney bordermen about my experience in france and they set me on my way. as i was still going through the border i told one of the english ladies (she was stood with a sign telling people where to go) that she looked beautiful and she smiled, said thank you and i continued driving. i could not believe the massive contrast between english people and the french - the border patrol in france looked like they could put a bullet in your skull at any given second. what is going on lol either british people are the nicest people on earth or the french are just garbage.

i wrote this not to hate on france or the french people but to see if there was maybe an explanation for what happened. i refuse to believe that a country like france can be this openly racist. also what are they feeding their police officers? they're all like 6 foot and built like tanks (even the women). that experience gave me the urge to join ISIS and burn france to the ground lol

    Are you being serious?

Haven't you watched the news lately? I'm not in the least bit racist but I can imagine if I lived in Calais for years then I'd be pretty pissed off with my town suddenly becoming totally inundated and basically a battleground between (illegal) immigrants and the police. I can totally understand.

Well of course they were. They wanted free stuff.

    Good. They're doing their job.

I'm sorry that you felt racially profiled but I don't know what you expected if you visited Calais. They're trying to deal with a crisis. Try somewhere more tolerant next time.

yeah you don't look like a bait algerian though lol. you could easily pass as brazillian or iranian. i was stopped more times 17 hours in calais than my 17 years in england. they don't give a **** bro here in england they'll at least pretend to like you if they don't. got to a stage where i was thinking about murdering the next french person that looks at me in a funny way then feeding their corpse to the refugees.

for some reason there's 2 copies of this thread but the main one is in the international forum and yeah i'm not going crazy.. apparently it's a known thing that the french are racist. it's just a huge contrast compared to english people -walked into a corner shop earlier and the owner looks at me with a huge grin on his face and shouts 'YESSSSSSSS MAAAAYTEE!' lol. on the other hand when i walked into shops in calais the staff would be nervous (seriously, feels like they're about to bring out a baseball bat and start swinging). glad to be back in england man

these illegal immigrants aren't algerian though. algerians live here legally and the authorities as well as the people of france know this - after all they did rape algeria (and most of africa) for 130 years lol. it's the same reason there are a lot of indians in england.
    Spoiler:
    Show
    england raped.
another reason they know i'm not an illegal immigrant is that i was driving a chrysler.

it probably comes across like i'm one of those *****y people that cry 'racism' about anything but i'm really not lol (you'll have a hard time offending me). i've been in england for 17 years and never felt discriminated against or anything, but they do not give a **** in france they're blatant about it. wanted to know if i was being delusional about french people being racist but apparently they're known for it (check my thread in the international forum i'm not sure why there's a copy of it here).

by the way when i say french people are racist i know that not all french people are (talking in a general sense). i would never hate or discriminate against somebody for being french (unless they were specifically from calais - then i might have to kill). my closest friends that i met in university were from france and they're good peeps, thats why i'm very surprised about yesterdays experience
