See the National Qualifications Framework for where it falls in the grand scheme of university qualifications: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation...rthern_Ireland

It's usually awarded after two years full-time higher education (CertHE after one year, DipHE after two, and BSc/BA after three). It might not be as recognisable as a BSc/BA but that will depend on the employer/university. Whether he can count credit towards further study will depend on the university, the qualification he wants to pursue, and the subjects covered as part of his DipHE.

What does he want to do?

    Hello MonteCristo,

Firstly, thank you for your very helpful and quick response. We will certainly look into the link you sent. My son has, in the meantime, opened up a tattoo studio, and is studying part-time, to get into the Athens University of Art, a very highly rated and difficult uni to get into. Besides being a bit on the lazy side, that's why he didn't finish his dissertation to obtain his Bsc, he is extremely talented. Therefore, we will contact the university and ask whether his credits are valid and useable or not.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.
