I am currently deciding which unis and courses to apply for and I am a bit confused on the difference between the two degrees at Warwick. I am aware that they are run by different departments, but would it not be the same if I chose Mathematics, and made up my optional modules from Statistics modules?

Hi there! I'm going to uni this year and made this exact decision last year. I ended up going for MathStat due to the lack of STEP, lower entry requirements, my enjoyment of stats and the employability of it afterwards. Employers will view MathStat candidates in a better light than maths candidates due to their ability to handle data and, few jobs require you to prove mathematical principles; lots want you to do statistics. Also, the course structure is very flexible so you can choose exactly what you want to study. One person said you can basically do a maths degree by signing up for MathStat. But my opinion is biased now
