We have to put it into 2 brackets

Yes, that's factorising a quadratic - did you do some examples in class?

With anything x^2 you know it will be (x )(x ) to work out the other numbers find two numbers which times together to get the last number and add to together to get the 'x' number.

    1) two numbers that add to make (+6) and multiply to make (-7) would be (+7,-1)
    Thus the answer is (x+7)(x-1) and x = -7 or 1

    2) two numbers add to make (+4) and multiply to make (-5) would be (+5, -1)
    Thus the answer is (x+5)(x-1) and x = -5 or 1
