Leech and his comment

I did some temp work in an office to gain some extra money for study etc. I asked a guy if he wanted a drink and he said 'I wouldn't say no to you anyday'. I was shocked he made that comment, his colleague just looked at him in a way I can't believe you said that. This repulsed me as he was obese, grey hair and late 40s. Why do people think they can check you out and make blatent comments like this? Does this happen in all workplaces with unwanted attention? I deem this as sexual harassment but is an unlikely proven case to be taken further.

one little comment and youve got your knickers in a twist, sheesh get over it, the guy made a joke big deal and in the work place yes you will get comments like that but most adults get over it and put it down to office banter

Oh and disgruntledwildbeast shes a temp worker which means if she said anything to her employer against a full time (and presumably long standing) collegue, the company would probably get rid of her before the end of the week. Harsh but true

Get over yourself.

Bet you wouldn't have minded if he looked like brad pitt, wonder if you'd be classing it as sexual harrasment then?

Eh???

You asked a guy to go for a drink... he was jovial and had a bit of a giggle... and you are immediately replulsed.

Sorry... am I the only one very confused.

I was told to ask all employees if they wanted a tea or coffee, no need for the guy and his dirty banter!

Oh, my bad. I took it the wrong way.

Oh... wait...

Unfortunately you will have to put up with this behaviour once in a while. I'm fully expecting to have to deal with it, being a female trainee solicitor. I'm sure some of the partners will hardly have perfect manners! But hey, just laugh along with them and hope they like you enough to give you a raise

No, you're most certainly not. How is that in any way a "leechy" comment? He's not making any remarks about your physical appearance, nor is it overtly sexual.

I think you're either incredibly sensitive, or basically just saying, "Look at me, I'm young and pretty and old fat ugly guys fancy me but they're gross ewwww!11!" If it's the former, then I apologise - but he definitely didn't mean anything bad by it, and he can't help being old and grey.

but if he was 20, muscular with flowing locks then it would be 'game on'?

there's sexual banter on the one hand, and there's sexual harassment proper on t'other. You yourself have just defined it as 'dirty banter' . You wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you proceeded with this legally...

Obviously I wouldn't take this to court  I just don't like comments made like this and the males on here seem to find it funny.

...and I didn't find it remotely amusing. Not my bag baby.

Nor me, what on earth is the point saying something like that? I don't see what they hope to gain other then looking like a sleazy loser. It's pretty pathetic.

Reply 15

<shrugs> Well the joke is on him anyway. He probably thinks he's being witty and has a chance  I say manipulate this (assuming he's the boss or someone powerful of course) while not showing the fact you think he is a desperate loser. You are safe in the knowledge that he is an idiot anyway. Ooh I'm just nasty...

Erm, care less? Seriously, if its one comment then just accept it as banter. Imagine working without any banter, not fun. If he's doing it a lot tell him to stop or take it up with a higher authority.

Chill out babe.

There's not a lot you can do, so just take comments like that with a pinch of salt and get over them. Getting frustrated won't achieve anything.

Agreed.
OP like hell that's sexual harrasment. It's one fat git being a bit of a thick prick.

Reply 19

It probably just stupid office banter, stop getting worked up over nothing. If he actually made sexual advances on you then you have a right for a sexual harrasement complaint but from what you've said its nothing like that.

I am interested in the point other posters made that if he was a fit younger guy, would you be posting this?
