Lexis: word order

Semantics: word meaning

Grammar: the way language is constructed; usually at sentence-based level.

Discourse: Usually part of speech or writing that's longer than a sentence.

When comparing, you'd usually have something like this "in Text A, the writer demonstrates his anger with the with pre-modifying adverb "absolutely" in the adverbial phrase "that is absolutely rubbish!". To illustrate his anger and disgust, the use of the punctuated exclamation mark tells the reader that he is placing emphatic stress in the sentence, or alternatively, on the last word."

Then you'd just do the same thing, but compare it with another text.

Or, to be accurate, words; the words in the language, including all variants.
