That's what I do! If you are busy you don't have time to think about it!

Make TSR your second home.... job done

You just need to ride the storm I think... my brother got home sickness pretty bad a few years back (not eating and unwell etc) and it was just a matter of getting used to it. Also a phone call helps as well.

I had a bit of homesickness when I spent a month away doing some conservation work. When it suddenly hits you it can feel bad, but I found by the end I got into a good routine and didn't ever want to leave. I'm sure that with time you'll feel better, alcohol can help a bit too :P

yeah, you have to remeber your here for an experiance, and all though you miss home, it wont be long untill you will be there again. It takes a little while but its worth it, Uni made me feel home sick but now I live away from home and I even got home sick when I left to live in my apartment but Im over that now! yeah!

why am i feeling homesick NOW? i am away for 6 weeks, have already been away for 4 already and will be home in 2... but the homesickness has hit me worst now, and i don't know why! i was completely fine for the first few weeks, nothing has changed but now i can't stop crying and just want to go home. i don't understand. surely it should be the other way round! i should have felt like this in the first 2 weeks not the last 2!
anyone else felt like this? any advice?

that 2 weeks will go so fast. try and enjoy the time you are having, the experience your getting, at the end of the day 6 weeks is nothing, and im sure you will regret thinking of home whilst u are travelling in a months time.

ive been away for 10 weeks now, and its gone fast and slow. some days im like yeaaaa man gonna be a good one. others i think ah this is rubbish i would like to be home. but i keep going cos its the experience that counts and ill be home soon enough. well July that is haha.

but yea, 2 weeks will soon fly.

Homesickness is a weird thing, just happens at random times. Like i started uni, and was fine for months, yet now i can barely last 3days without wanting to be at home.

and sometimes ringing home/going home is for the best, and helps you. Whereas others days completely avoiding contact home is for the best. You just have to decide what is best for you at each 'moment'.

As others have already mentioned, it's essential to keep busy. Homesickness only ever has a chance to kick in when you find yourself bored and with nothing to do.

I'm feeling the same way. I've been away for 3 months, I've had a fantastic time, made some lovely new friends but now they're leaving and I'll be on my own for 10 days. Deep down I know it's not really a big deal. It's only ten days, I have plenty of stuff to keep me busy but I just really want to go home right now! I miss it so much :frown:. I think you just have to try and keep busy, call home as often as you can (if it's too expensive maybe you could get skype or email instead) it helps to keep in touch with those you love though.

yup no just how you feel! even though 10 days/2 weeks really is nothing, when you're homesick it can feel like a lifetime! although i think it's true it will race by, and i think the trick is to keep busy, like people above have said. not only does this mean you won't be thinking about feeling hoemsick, but the time will go quicker too. so thanks everyone for your advice!
i miss home so much too - just the little things, like being able to drive round to see my friends who ihaven't see for motnhs, or watch english tv! and of course all my family. yeh i talk to my family most nights on msn, tis brilliant because it's free! so thanks for the tip.
are you on your gap year? what have you been up to? do you have stuff planned for the next 10 days? (dw if you don't want to asnwer these questions, if you thnik it'll give away who you are!)

I found homesickness temporarily cured by completely distracting yourself with friends or basically any sort of socialising. Keeping busy with tasks and work makes me feel worse because the loneliness really descends on you.

Call home?

I don't know why, but calling home or reading emails from home always made my homesickness much worse... this doesn't apply to everyone, of course.

i know what you mean - i love talking to my parents online/emailing them because i can catch up with them and i miss them less that way, but i never call them because i just miss them loads if i actually hear their voices. weird, huh. guess it's different for different people, like you say!
