What counts as confidence?

This is a simple question really, but one that is bugging me.

Girls always say to have confidence in yourself because if you have confidence, then you have a better chance of asking a girl out successfully. But what counts as confidence really? The reason I ask is because my idea of confidence is a guy acting like he is on top of the world, thinks he is the best thing that has happened to women etc etc (in other words being cocky), but I know that is rather pathetic and you have even less chance of winning the girls affections.

So how can I look/be confident without appearing like an idiot?

Well, I'm confident to an extend where I don't really care about what other people think of me, and just do my own thing, etc...

There is a fine line between arrogance and confidence...

Well I have that attitude as well (have done since High School), but you do tend to care when you find someone attractive

You describe over confidence not confidence. I hate over confident people!!!

Confidence is just the ability to talk to people without thinking about what other people think about yourself.
I used to be very shy and now I just don't care about other peoples opinions.

I tend to clash with over confident people and naturally play down their comments!!!

Don't be arrogant/cocky/whatever... it's the least attractive and most annoying thing!! just do what you wanna do and don't care what other people say and think (as said above) i don't even think you have to be confident to ask a girl out succesfuly cos some girls prefer quiet, shy guys.

It's true. If guys/girls think that they are God's gift, and come across to others that they are better than them; then that is a complete turn off and would cause others to steer clear of them.

However, its not the same everywhere you go, and the cocky arrogant people seem to stick together.

That's how I've experienced it anyway.

being yourself without making excuses for it, meeting new people without coming over as nervous, giving your own opinions rather than other peoples, not worrying about what what other people will think about your less mundane interests. thats the kind of confidence i like in a guy.

A lot of it is posture and the way you hold yourself e.g. when walking.

When girls walk, they tend to brush their knees against each other each step whilst guys walk with knees never touching, giving a "cool, hip" look.

Being a sheep is such a turn-off, like the above said, have your own opinions and don't be afraid about having different opinions- that is the key!

Thats what girls count as confidence??

Well I must appear very confident then as I'm pretty opinionated, just ask my mates.

I think of confident, as in confident around girls - maybe slightly cocky/teasing but obviously not over the top. Confident guys are not afraid to pay attention to a girl (joke, talk to her etc), whereas shy/quiet guys don't have this confidence, which is probably why a lot of girls prefer a guy who is more confident.

But obviously, people are attracted to all kinds of personalities.

Hmmm, depends on what your opinions are & how you phrase them, but I sometimes find opinionanted guys irritating. Confident, yes, but also full of it.

Confidence is genuinely knowing you can do it. So if you go there, knowing she wants you, you're more likely for her to say yes. Being loud, trying to do everything, that doesn't mean confidence. In fact, if someone wants to do everything, I'll be more than happy to let them.

It's all in the comments, the way you walk, the ideas, without hesitation.
