Hey karl,

I personally prefer paid antivirus/security, but if you insist on freeware, your best bet would have to be a combination of AVG Antivirus Lite/FREE and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware FREE.

May aswell throw some SAS in there (SuperAntiSpyware) but if you're about max performance like me don't use any and use your brain. Not been infected once as I'm not an idiot except that random java -driveby caused by my brother.

no but dad got quotes £55 to continue with Norton and it's kind of a waste of money in my view

I wouldn't take advice from people who don't know what they're doing.

You'll want Malware Bytes, Avast or FortiClient 5.0

Depends what you're doing, Try a Virtual Machine if you are looking at a lot of Infected Material.

The Free Antivirus is Sufficient.

I use 360 Total Security:
Pros
>It's free
>Comes with extra tools (Sandbox, speed up, patching, firewall etc)
>Includes access to Avast, and Bitdefender dictionary
>Looks nice
>Customization

Cons
>Made by a Chinese software company...
>Uploads unknown files unless you tell it not too
>If you're not comfortable with changing settings around, you're not going to get full protection

It has been working pretty fine on my laptop so far, but if you're really security conscious you should always have an Anti-Malware as-well as your Anti-Virus. Anti-Malware will keep you protected from Zero Day Exploits rather than old already known threats. I recommend you use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/).
