What's with the London school rivalry?

Just really curious, why is it that people at London medical schools seem to hate/look down on each other? Why is there so much rivalry? Obviously it seems like it's a bit of fun, but...

For some reason,

Imperial College seem to hate George's, GKT, UCL and Barts (as evident by their open day and the song by Adam Kay and Suman Biswas)

At my George's interview, I was greeted by the students with a sharp "ooooh " when I said that one of my other choices was Imperial College!

I can't speak for GKT, UCL or Barts but the general impression I get is that they follow suit ... or am I wrong?

Perhaps a few students could shed some light on this? lol

Maybe because no one knows which one is the best.

Maybe it's because there are so many medical schools in the same area/region in close proximity to each other a bit of friendly rivalry can't be helped. After all they are (for the time being at least) all under the banner of "University of London" but I think the rivarly is nothing than frilly frolicking.

I could be wrong........

GUESS: Lol well I don't think it's possible ... it's all very well going on league tables but at the end of the day is one of them really outstandingly better than the others?

British Bulldog: True ... there's rivalry between the school's in my area (except it's anything but friendly lol) ... it was funny though, when I went to Imperial's open day, the Union president spent his whole speech having every second sentence stating "...better than George's"! lol I'm sure it's friendly ... after all we're mature now aren't we...?

Based on data that is 6 and 10 years old... Wait til next year when the next RAE and GMC visits are due... The data will be totally different.

Could be something to do with Imperial deciding to go independent from the rest of the University of London - they think they are better than it - don't want their graduates being equated to people who studied at Birkbeck.

But I reckon the rivalry has gone on for many years and as you said, it's just a bit of fun. Look at any city with more than one uni and you'll find rivalry:
Oxford vs Oxford-Brookes
Bristol vs UEA
feel free to add more examples

The problem is they are all so different, so its just which one suits you. If you think alla of them suit you, just pick the university which has the best reputation in terms of the uni in general.

I would go for Imperial:rolleyes::p: .

To be fair I'm only joking if I ever say anything about other universities. Other than King's. Gits. :p:
Actually that's a joke too. The only real department I hate, is the Imperial Chemistry department :P:

Do you think Bart's will make the top 20 after the next review?

Heh, why is that? Our school took us to some Chemistry Lectures run by them (at Imperial) yesterday, they didn't seem too, erm, loathsome!?

Peninsula will top the league tables just you wait and see!

It's a good thing really. If they hadn't rejected me, I wouldn't be becoming a doctor. So I suppose I really should love them

I think it's because he applied for Chem at Imperial last year, they rejected him, he applied to be a doctor?
When I went to my Imperial interview, the students seem to spend every other sentence dissing UCL

Bristol vs UEA
Maybe the medics, but not sure the geographers would agree there was much intracity rivalry ...

A lot of medical schools have their rivals when it comes to sport or for some other reasons. In London it is a bit more extreme but it is all in good fun i'm sure.
