Low calorie meal ideas

Heya I'm going on a diet because I've put on weight recently and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for meals I could have for tea (so in the evening) that are roughly 300-500 kcals and not really bloody hard to cook.

So far my only idea is salad and weightwatchers meals, and maybe steamed vegetables.

Also does anyone know how many calories is in a single chicken breast with no seasoning or anything, steamed?

500 cals.. grab a big mac, no chips, no drink.

on a serious note. for dinner you should eat a well balanced meal rather than calorie counting beacuse your body is going to be using it all evening and all night to stay alive. take some lean meat, 2 or 3 different veggies, and some complex carbs. as for actuall suggestions, i like chicken fajitas. oven baked chicken peices, a low fat sause or seasoning, throw in some onion, salad, peppers shedder carrot or whatever, wrap in a wholemeal tortilla and away you go.

tuna sandwich. 2 slices of bread = 200, and a can of tuna drained is another 170 ish. no mayo though, that is terrible for cals. put some lettuce on it or something.

eggs scrambled on toast, again 200 from bread, dont actually know the calories of an egg but I wouldnt think it will be much more than 100 per egg..?

when you think of these meals make sure its balanced as well. if you have 400 ish calorie meals then make sure you have *at least* 4 of these a day, dont starve yourself. just keep it healthy and let the exercise create the calorie defecit you need.

4 a day would be like 1600 kcal! A women dieting should be aiming for between 1000-1500 depending on their weight. I'm actually aiming for 1000 but with lots of fruit and veg because I dieted at 1000 before and lost alot of weight which I've kept off (the weight that I've put on atm was lost through not eating which was alot lower than 1000!).

eating 1000 cals or less is in the catagory of crash dieting, this is not healthy and leads to a yo yo effect which again is not very good for you.

I find wraps tend to make great meals, stick a bit of chicken or some such (I'm veggie lol) and some nice chopped veg, cooked or raw, et voila a nice easy meal

I don't know exactly what yo yo dieting is properly but as long as the weight stays off like it has before I'm not that fased.
Atm I'm loving wholemeal pitta bread with some chicken slices, lots of lettuce, possibly mushrooms/red peppers too if I have them. Although I have that more as a lunch of 200-250 calories.

I love mayo so much and was so upset at having to give it up that my mummy did some hunting around for me and there is an extra light version of Hellman's that only has about 15 cals per tablespoon. It tastes **** on its own but mixed with tuna or egg etc you can't really tell the difference. It really is a godsend. Btw eggs are about 80 calories each but (as I argued tooth and nail on another thread) it's not good to stuff yourself with them as they are quite high in cholesterol and saturated fat. You shouldn't really exceed 10 a week which sort of equates with about three servings a week. But within this limit and you'll get all the benefits like unsaturated fat, protein and various vitamins without sending your LDLs through the roof (metaphorically speaking).

I don't eat that much mayo so I'm not that bothered about sacrificing it, I'll probably substitiute it for natural yoghurt because I used to eat alot as a kid but oh my god giving up chocolate and icecream. Even low cal icecream is high what will i do?

Do you know how many calories is in cooked chicken that has been steamed Jennybean? Like a chicken breast?

it's round about 120 calories for a normal sized chicken breast, grilled.

and whoever said a tin of tuna is 170 calories, holy crap! if you buy tuna in spring water or brine instead of in oil, it's only 100 calories for a tin. And mayo isn't bad at all as long as you get a low fat version - sainsburies own brand do an extra extra light mayo (the one with the pink wrapper!) and mixed with tuna etc it doesn't taste bad at all.

In terms of meal ideas, stirfries (if you have a non-stick pan you don't have to use any oil! or you can cook my non-fry stir-fry - steam veggies, grill chicken, cook up some brown rice and mix them all together with some warm stirfry sauce - same taste but no oil  ).

Omelettes, fish and steamed vegetables, chicken and raw veggies and houmous - look on the 'what did you eat today' thread and get ideas from the dinners of people who are dieting!

if you're after icecream, try the skinny cow icecream sticks - they're round about 100 calories each and from what i can remember they don't taste bad at all, certainly satisfy the icecream tooth . but i think they have quite a lot of air in them - they're very, erm, whipped?! i can't think of a better way to describe it lol
And sorbet is a gorgeous replacement for icecream! Lemon sorbet is the best

Check out the 'Skinny Cow' range.

Less than 100 calories for a big ice-cream stick, in a variety of flavours.

He is referring to what may happen if you eat way too little kcal... I would personally be around my BMR if I am dieting (or a bit more), I think 1000 sounds a bit low for you unless you are really small and have a slow metabolism. I'd probably aim around 1500, but it is hard trying to advise when I don't know more, so this is obviously generalised...

Here is a thread which discussed a diet that was eh, VERY low on kcal http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=350368
Skinny Cow is really good, forgot about that! Will be a godsend this summer. Also I swear Ben and Jerry's do a chocolate fudge brownie frozen yoghurt which was shockingly low in calories....like, really surprisingly low for what it tastes like, I could never have told the difference between it and the normal ice cream.

Edit: Here's the link!
