Well, I have never heard it called the Weimar Empire before. It is conventional to call it, since the 1930s, the Weimar Republic, and getting its name right is surely a prerequisite. It was known in English as the German Empire, but not recently and not as a rule. Of course, in German, it was known as Das Deutches Reich officially, but that wasn't even popular in Germany.

Yes, I thought it was odd as well. I've been referring to it as The Weimar Empire simply because that's what my history teachers have been calling it.
