My girlfriends paranoid

Im VERY worried about my girlfriend. Basicaly she has depression...and in the past used to self harm and have bulimia as well. Now she has started smoking...which to be honest isnt that big of a deal...but when she does it she says she becomes paranoid...and locks all the doors in the house thinking that someones going to come in and get her :|. This is VERY worrying to me, because it seems to suggest she has a mental disorder. Has anyone got any experience with this kind of thing?

I have no idea on the topic, but I would perhaps try to prob the situation a little further - perhaps there's an underlying problem that causes her to smoke as she may think it'll help her get over the problems, but it instead worsens it. Try to perhaps sit her down, and calmly talk through the situation - if it's really serious then support her, but get others involved - close friends of hers, family perhaps.

Well... firstly is sounds like she has been through a hard time and I feel she needs all the support she can get. I can understand your cause for concern, maybe you should try speaking to someone and see if you can get her any help, but speak to her about it first, dont go behind her back or anything! I dont think she has a mental disorder, i think maybe it is just her way of feeling safe as obviously she has been through a lot.
